I kept complaining though social media about the two months and they finally sent someone out to look (so they said). None of us could be there to meet the person or see that they actually showed up. But I got an auto call that everything is fixed, but of course it is not working still. Hard to really tell how things go with these cable companies. Guy on the phone said there is a node out in the area. The guy two houses down has working everything. Guy on phone has no idea if they fixed the broken cable.

Definitely want to do the conduit idea this summer when the forest dries. It will be a long stretch of rugged, rock filled steep terrain but doesn't need to be perfect. Rake off the forest floor, digg a trench, lay conduit with a string inside (i like the vacuum trick). Then I call them out again when I can be there and ask them to restring the coax through the conduit? I can do that part myself but I don't think they allow it. There are stickers on the side of the cable box by house that say you can touch anything upstream. And they keep the cable box locked on the side of the house so I can change how many cable splits and they control where those will go in the house. They are probably going to find out that I split one of them to get my cable box where I wanted last summer : )

It would also be nice to have the conduit for stringing a cat line to the driveway to add an IP camera covering the driveway from a tall tree. That was my next project. Except I was going to be lazy and wasn't planing on burying it. Now I know why I need to.

There is actually an old conduit from the small house to the big house already. No idea if it is clogged up or working ok but I did notice it. Maybe string the cable to the little place, down the side of the house and into that conduit. I'll try the vacuum trick once the snow melts and see if I get any movement. There is so much snow and mud that things get damaged easily on the ground, especially plastic pipes.

Here is a recent storm pic from the neighbor down the way of some trees topping on a side road, not our road. 16105625_10154000859935771_379237759921403444_n-2.jpg

Cable co's suck. I've had repair guys show up here, and they basically had no idea WHY, because dispatch did such a crummy job of communicating my problem. And the techs gripe about the fact that they don't get close to accurate info about the problem.
It's very probable that there are other lines down in your area, affecting your service.
Good on you taking to social media to get them to act.

Where is this place located? Is it like your second home or something?

Several years ago our business class cable service slowed (from 100 down/30 up) to the speed of a 56k modem. This was particularly egregious since, at the time, we were hosting our own website and mail server. Over the ensuing THIRTY DAYS I begged, cajoled, threatened and cried to get it fixed. I was told several times that the cable company needed to "split the node" which (I was also told) was a very expensive proposition. The stress was enormous. It eventually got fixed, but I still hate them and with no alternative other than a T1 (our previous solution) we are married to this criminal business network for the foreseeable future.

Ok. Made it up to the mountains. The cable guy fixed one wire and left the second half disconnected. No wonder why nothing was working. I spliced it together with a $2 crimp and got it working for now.

1.. I upgraded the NVR firmware from 3.210.0001.0 to 3.210.0002.0 Haven't noticed any differences in the except IVS!! Looks pretty similar. Is that a big firmware upgrade or small? Happy to see IVS

I was able to set up a tripwire and missing object, struggling with getting it to send me a snapshot (never got this to work, I don't think it actually does really work)

2. I downloaded the new Smart PSS trying to get used to it, doesn't want to save my NVR each time I close it. Cant find good tutorials on these anywhere. Someone needs to make a video : ) (**solved this, make sure the app is in the app folder and not on the computer desktop)

3. IOS still crashes bad after the NVR firmware upgrade. Oh well... (**slightly solved reduce fps on substream to 10fps)

Anyone have a tutorial on IVS? I'll start searching the forums

You get a gold star for fixing the cable yourself. Many would not even attempt it.

For Number1 the upgrade is likely a small one. As a general rule the further to the left the numbers change with firmwares the more significant the upgrade. So going from 3.210.0001.0 to 3.210.0002.0 is quite a minor change, but if it were 3.210.0001.0 to 4.001.0001.0 would be a massive upgrade that likely changes a great many things.

Thanks. It's only temporary but literally took 3 mins.

IDMSS Plus running stable again after I reduced the sub stream from 20fps to 10fps. if that helps anyone else.

There was talk this summer when I was building this to be careful about painting the outdoor camera black. It could cause it to overheat. Well one nice feature of the black is that it has been keeping the snow from sticking to it or melting it off faster then other areas. I'm sure the dome stays warm but the mount doesn't have any snow sticking to it after months of snow storms. The location also turned out to be ideal because the tree above protects it from too much direct snow fall. When it is affected, it is from snow or rain blowing sideways, but the lens always clears its self so far. Snow has never stuck to the lens. I learned this camera does not have the options IVS feature on it. Wish it did, but oh well. Need to find a better way to mount it come spring. SO hard to get on the top of a ladder and try to get it level both vertically and horizontally. There must be an easier way. There must be a way to attached a level to it and do it right the first time. The tree isn't vertically straight so it is a challenged for sure.

mount it to a pole instead of a tree.
It has def been suggested a few times. But too much work for me. Steep terrain, would take me hours to lug cement supplies up and down rough terrain and no good place for it in our eyes. And want it hidden from view from inside the house looking out. The tree is very stable even on a windy day, Just need an easier mount that allows adjustments once bolted on. They probably don't make one to handle with weight, its pretty heavy.

Get a gyroscopic mount and enable electronic image stabilization lol, I dunno, I'm just grabbing for straws here.

Cut the wood block in a wedge to get the vertical angle close, put 1 screw in loosely level the horizontal angle (a small magnetic level may help). Use washers to fine tune the vertical adjustment / compensate for the angle/tilt/unevenness of the tree. No matter what you do though a tree mount will be challenging. It's easier to level just the mount without the camera attached.

Should be easy to put a level on a piece of 2 by 10 and mount it to the tree plumb vertically. Just wedge it to the right angle and screw the mount to it.

Great ideas!!! I'll get the wood as level as I can with wedges and washers and a level. Then mount the camera onto the wood secondarily. I was trying to get the entire contraption level while I was up there on the top of a 15ft ladder and the things is heavy. I got it 90% but when you swivel horizontally with a long lens it dips down :/
