Upgraded Dahua NVR4208 and lost IVS capabilities in NVR

Anyone recently upgrade their NVR4208 and lose all IVS capabilities? The display setting is no longer an option for IVS.

Upgraded to DH_NVR4xxx_Eng_P_V3.202.0000.1.R.20170321

It happened to one of my NVR's I did notice IVS is toast after the upgrade. Its a Dumb lookback system so no worries about IVS. I think I even tried to downgrade with no luck.

I used General_NVR4XXX-4K_Eng_PN_V3.210.005.0.R20160614.bin

Yes, when I try to downgrade I now get an error as if the firmware now doesn't let you go backwards as it did in the past. IVS was pretty solid but what alternatives do people use that didn't have luck with IVS?

I might have to visit this NVR again, I get my gear from a USA re seller and I never pushed the issue with them only because on this system the cams do not support IVS but it would be nice to find a solution. Where did you get your gear?

In my case I did some research on this NVR. The 4208 is NOT listed on the Dahua USA list at least a picture of it anyway. So I inclined to believe its a international model or a CN model. That being said, The one I have was set up for re-branding (OEM)by the reseller. I still see them out there in the market.

I will say its been rock solid as far as 24/7 recording other than having to replace a noisy fan.

I bought my NVR 4208 from vector18 .. solid unit and also replaced the fan. I used IVS for last year and just recently upgraded the firmware only to find out I lost the IVS capabilities on the NVR. Curious if others have similar situation.

Helle there. I have the exact same problem. Lost my IVS on my nvr 4204. Also tryed so many different donwgrades but no one works. Dont get why they removed it, so much better than MD.

No. I hope Dahua engineers put back the IVS in any future nvr4xxx firmware releases. The MD is a failure compared to IVS detection.

I agree! Dont get it. Dahua said one of the reasons they removed it. Is because of Security risk. Hm

Just saw this post..to clarify, i had nothing to do with this transaction.. I don't own or sell nvr's...

Okay…so if one wants IVS, the 4xxx series NVRs are therefore not recommended i.e. do not buy? Correct?

This is an old model that is end of life (EOL). I would get the new NVR so you are up to date on the features and technology. Are you using Dahua cameras?

Got 4 of them. Two Amcrest and two Empires.

I’m not really into the up to date ones ‘cause I hate anything that has to do with AIs. I just want basic detection (not the motion detection mind you) like perimeter, intrusion, tripwire and the likes.

Those functions ARE AI.

You can do AI ( like perimeter, intrusion, tripwire, etc) on the NVR OR the camera with the NVR @camdensnyder recommended.
But best to do it on the camera IF your camera has this functionality..

I thought ‘AI‘ is another separate feature with its own set of functions like SMD+. So you can now do AI on the NVR alone with cameras that do not support it? It is my understanding that both the camera and the NVR should have the same feature in order for it to work.

Yes, the newer NVRs can do AI on cameras that do not support it, BUT enabling it cuts the capacity of the NVR, and by some aspects up to half and can make it problematic for some users. That is why it is best to have the camera do it.

No, AI is just a general term for the various functions that are intelligent, (IVS/SMD, etc) unlike old fashioned Motion Detection that simply detects the change in contrast of a pixel. This is why plain MD cant distinguish between a shadow from a tree branch vs a car.

yes, the newer AI powered NVR's can perform AI functions with cameras without such features. I cant vouch for it working on ALL cameras, but in theory most Dahua cameras should be compatible.
There are limitations/tradeoffs however

For instance

Perimeter Protection
Perimeter Performance AI by Recorder (Number of Channels)	4 channels, 10 IVS rules for each channel
Perimeter Performance of AI by Camera (Number of Channels)	8 channels

And when you enable AI on the recorder, youy cut your bandwidth capacity by almost 1/2

Network Bandwidth

AI disabled: 384 Mbps incoming, 384 Mbps recording and 384 Mbps outgoingAI enabled: 200 Mbps incoming, 200 Mbps recording and 200 Mbps outgoing
