Just saw this post..to clarify, i had nothing to do with this transaction.. I don't own or sell nvr's...I bought my NVR 4208 from Fenderman.. solid unit and also replaced the fan. I used IVS for last year and just recently upgraded the firmware only to find out I lost the IVS capabilities on the NVR. Curious if others have similar situation.

This is an old model that is end of life (EOL). I would get the new NVR so you are up to date on the features and technology. Are you using Dahua cameras?Okay…so if one wants IVS, the 4xxx series NVRs are therefore not recommended i.e. do not buy? Correct?

Got 4 of them. Two Amcrest and two Empires.
I’m not really into the up to date ones ‘cause I hate anything that has to do with AIs. I just want basic detection (not the motion detection mind you) like perimeter, intrusion, tripwire and the likes.
Those functions ARE AI.
You can do AI ( like perimeter, intrusion, tripwire, etc) on the NVR OR the camera with the NVR @camdensnyder recommended.
But best to do it on the camera IF your camera has this functionality..
I thought ‘AI‘ is another separate feature with its own set of functions like SMD+. So you can now do AI on the NVR alone with cameras that do not support it? It is my understanding that both the camera and the NVR should have the same feature in order for it to work.
BTW, your avatar…I call that the mask of Obama.
