I agree on 2nd hand and think you misunderstood. I was saying as businesses upgrade pc's and start to migrate to AMD based systems, it's likely Intel systems will start to flood the 2nd hand market and 2nd hand prices are likely to fall. That's where it might be worth waiting for a bargain.
Makes sense to me theoretically. Not sure the used market is extremely efficient so we will see. Intel Will Cut Desktop CPU Prices By 10-15% as Ryzen 3000 Draws Near, Report Says - Slashdot

I’m tracking this elitedesk, which would probably work but want the i5-8500 for future proofing.

This is lowest price online right now. They sometimes lowers it to $404 free shipping so watch for it:
HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF i5-8500 3.00GHz 8GB Warranty 2021 #062401 | eBay

--it looked like sold while I was typing this reply though. I kept it so you can follow the seller as they might have more.

A few months ago I also picked up a Optiplex 7060 SFF with a i5-8500 for $350. Optiplex only allows for 1 HDD but it is ok for my needs in this location.

So the deals are there. Depends on what you want. I would probably wait for a i7 8th gen also if I can get it for a good price. I like to have a backup just in case.

Yep. I’ve been watching. I5-8500 will be plenty with room to spare for me.

I'm also looking for something around a i5-8500... If anyone sees some good deals post them up
just gotta watch. Try to best offer and if it doesn't sell see if they relist lower as these are high:
HP EliteDesk 800 G4 4DP54UT Intel Core i5 8500 3.00 GHz 8 GB 256 GB SSD Win 10 192545509039 | eBay

HP ELITEDESK 800 G4 SFF I5-8500 3.00GHZ 8GB 256GB SSD UHD 630 WIN 10P | eBay

This user for past few months sold about about (12) i5-8500 in the $400-450 range:
htg_tech on eBay

Or for optiplex this isn't so bad and it comes with a 4TB purple drive it seems in this listing (it doens't say that in the listing but photo shows purple drive which seems like a good deal):
Dell OptiPlex 7060 SFF Intel i5-8500 @ 3.00GHz 8GB DDR4 RAM 4TB HDD NO OS! | eBay

You can only have 1 HDD in the optiplex so you just need a 2.5 HDD or M.2 for the OS and you are ready to record quickly.

@MacFun - confused by the question. You can get the 8500 in other computers. The elitedesk allows 2, 3.5” hdds and a 2.5”. Plus the price has been seen around $400. Those are the reasons people are looking for it. Not sure what you are looking for

Hi guys, I appreciate your feedback but I think you misunderstood the question. Within the EliteDesk family did the 8500 series intel processor begin with the G4?

If you are after that particular CPU then I would just keep searching for it to see what results you get back. No doubt you’ll get back a variety from which you can choose from.

When I got my BI PC I just kept searching and making best offers.

I think the G4 is up to i7-8700 and only one that goes that high according to HP site. Dell Optiplex 7060 is also good. The 7060 is smaller and only has 1 HDD bay. It makes a nice BI machine. I have a few BI machines just so I have backup just in case. I will try to do a little comparison review on them to help others choose what they might need.
