How about this computer for BI?

@fenderman - thanks. I've read that on some other posts on the site. I imagine that is not every computer out there being sold. Maybe there is a rule of thumb to know for future use? The business desktops seems to typically have them...fair assumption?

@TL1096r - Yes, I've used the media tool before. I've also been looking at that BI Update Helper chart and sorting it different ways to see what I might need. Do you know if the CPU usage is peak or average or point in time? Also, I don't think you can tell if they are recording continuous or just when triggered which can make a difference as well. Seems like people running the i5-6500 with around 400-550 MP/s (which is where I think I'll be) have quite a bit of headroom still, which is why I'm thinking I should be fine with that computer. I don't like to be surprised though and so I tend to buy a little more than I think I need for the future. But it starts getting expensive if the desktop is $400 plus $100 for a 4 TB WD purple HDD, plus another $60 or so for a 256 GB SSD. Decisions, decisions....

Any hp elitedesk/prodesk would have come with a w10 pro license. Also note that there is a windows pro sticker (the style for w10) on the back image.

It might be worth waiting a month or two to pick up an Intel PC. I'd expect to see a lot of Intel PC's falling in price following the release of the Ryzen 3000 series. By all counts the new Ryzens are killing Intel for the performance at a given price point, and it's well expected that even the current most popular processor, the 7700K may plummet in popularity and price as a result.

The prices of used intel based business class systems are not affected by ryzen. They are cheaper than ryzen.

I can't see people rushing out and ditching Intel for AMD for CCTV purposes. However, many businesses may be looking to go AMD Zen 2 next time around as not only is price / performance allegedly better, but also they are reportedly more efficient so use less wattage / generate less heat. Obviously any glut of Intel systems coming to market 2nd hand is going to start to push prices down, which can only be good for our purposes.

There are a lot of commentators commenting on the potential effect on Intel, and it seems many of the motherboard manufacturers are also now supporting Zen 2 in preference to Intel designs in the new editions of their boards:

The price of the processors alone is irrelevant. We are discussing slightly used systems at more than half of the original pricing. After paying for the OS you cannot build it for that price.
 
I agree on 2nd hand and think you misunderstood. I was saying as businesses upgrade pc's and start to migrate to AMD based systems, it's likely Intel systems will start to flood the 2nd hand market and 2nd hand prices are likely to fall. That's where it might be worth waiting for a bargain.

Right. I saw that going through the specs. 3.5 oR 2, 2.5s. This is a long term purchase for me so will probably hope to find the HP elitedesk you recommended.

Im at the limit i think of my i7 elitedesk and need to upgrade it. I have 12 cams and it slows down when i remote in. Maybe i should sell it to upgrade.

What exact processor do you have and what resolutions and frame rates do you use. 12 cams is a meaningless number.

I have attached a pic here of the connection. Looks like 700 mp/s.

I have 14 cams.

I have 4 reolinks, 4 hikvisions, and the rest are dahua starlights.

Gotcha.

I have wierd studdering thats why i figured it was overloaded. Ill try and reduce the 30fps and see if it clears up.
