New Reolink Wired POE Doorbell Cam ?

All the other doorbells from Reolink both wifi and POE work great. I have the black POE one and had no issues setting it up at all. Plenty of others have the wifi ones and no issues. Now I decided to try the new white POE version with a different FOV and for some reason it’s being a bit of a...

New Reolink Wired POE Doorbell Cam ?

So I am using the WiFi version (Black), using the power from the existing Doorbell Transformer has had no problems. The WiFi reception has been good, better than the Hivision DB I had for 3 years. My EAP660 Access Point is presently in a bedroom/office on the opposite side of the house where...

New Reolink Wired POE Doorbell Cam ?

Reolink has this comparison on their amazon product page: What an odd design choice. I had no idea why they chose to tie the FOV to the color . The black FOV seems to match what I get from my black Reolink POE doorbells, right down to the glorious pincushioning: I'm considering...

    Long outdoors netwok cable run

I totally agree, not a fan of CCA cables at all. Same reason why you need to upsize conductor size when you run aluminum electrical wiring. At least the high voltage aluminum stuff is heavily regulated so you know what you're getting vs some of the el cheapo CCA junk on the market. You...

    Long outdoors netwok cable run

Are you saying that either conductor in the UTP is "grounded" (as in "earth ground") if being fed by the DC minus side of a POE power supply? The term "ground" as in AC house wiring and the "ground" (negative) in a isolated DC system are not synonymous.

    Armcrest support is a joke

When you installed the Reolink unit, did you also install a Reolink-specific power adapter thingy? Or do the different doorbell-wiring-compatible cameras all use something similar/compatible?

new router, now security cameras don't work

Been there on several occasions, got the tee shirt.....and often times, after questioning everyone within a 500 foot radius for 10 minutes and you finally find the issue (without any hints) you mention what you discovered and then you hear, inevitably...."Oh, yeah.....the tech from Yada Yada...

new router, now security cameras don't work

I got 'called' to an install that I had been done by another party in the past, I resolved all the issues (mainly the use of wifi extenders for connection of poe units!!) by hard wiring them, took 2 days, all was quiet for over a year and then a msg that all the cameras had stopped working...

N00B Oldie from the UK...be gentle with me :-)

Hi all. Just registered as I'm gonna be getting myself sorted with a CCTV system for home in the near future after fitting a Reolink system for a mate at his house and being well impressed with it. :D I'm not an installer in any way shape or fashion (ex BT Cable Jointer) but he'd...

    ok, new home/doorbell cam

We just bought a house. I have no cam/dvr setup as of now but will have. what is the best short term cam setup for a doorbell ca,m? there is no wiring currently for a doorbell btw, so i either have to tap into the 110 front light or it needs to be a stand alone ive not researched this topic as...

Funning 12 volt devices with a POE switch for electricity only.

That may be the case. It could also mess up the switch. But it's worth the $20 to me if it works ok in a stable way. You figure I would wire a few things to one switch. I have everything here, I'm gonna try it. The advantage, of course, is you can run the cables a lot farther with thinner...

Funning 12 volt devices with a POE switch for electricity only.

Amazon has 20 pages of 48 volt DC to 12 volt DC converters. Most will not have the type of connector your are looking for. Pick a device that is suitable for your current (power) range, voltage requirements and price range. However, not sure how well regulated these devices are but for...

    What brand to choose?

What most people have found here is that installers LOVE to install cheap junk and charge a premium for it. And most simply run the cables and hang the cameras up and do nothing with dialing in the cameras to the field of view and they simply leave the cameras on auto/default settings, which...

Issue with BI / Amcrest IP5M Camera

So for a brief background, not an expert, but I've had BI for ~7-8 years, I have 12 cameras on my system, from 3-4 different manufactures, so I have some level of knowledge, though by far an expert. I have 1 Amcrest camera, an IP5M and I cannot get it in Blue Iris. it comes and goes, mostly...

    Natural Gas Generators

I got 14kw kohler installed for ~$7k. That was genset, transfer switch, electrical wiring, plumbing, and pad. Re: generator pad. I used an elevated pad filled w/ rocks to absorb vibrations. It's through the bedroom wall, 4 feet from my head, and I can barely hear it.

    Dahua 5442 varifocal Turret repair...

I have a 5442 that started cutting in and out on BI. I unplugged it, then plugged in again, and not long after that it quit for good. One of the connectors on the camera ethernet plug corroded away-- it's GONE, and the plug is shot. SO, I am going to splice a keystone jack onto the wires in...

    Problems with 4MP camera

I had the same suspicions but according to the spec sheets of the both the 2mp and 4mp cameras the power requirements are pretty much the same. What bothers me aswell is that the yellow and green port lights on the NVR come on, albeit static instead of flickery like the others, and the NVR...

    Problems with 4MP camera

You are pushing the theoretical distance limits of POE and I suspect this camera needs just a little more juice than the 2MP you tried. We have had MANY people here after running cable and the tester shows it is fine but doesn't work. The consumer grade testers only test continuity. Unless you...

In-ground conduit for cam related cables

Thank you @fergenheimer and @tigerwillow1. The major cost will be the trenching operation and closing up, and this is going to be a one-time shot for me. Am inclined towards 2", because we all know how regret tastes later. Wire conduits of these lengths should be at least 1½” (in this case 1"...

IP Cameras Missing after POE Switch Swap

I suggest you assign unique, static IP's to the camera in the same subnet as your BI's server's LAN and router's LAN/gateway but outside of your router's DHCP pool. This can be changed any time should you go with VLAN's later. Just be prepared to receive contradictory advice regarding static...

IP Cameras Missing after POE Switch Swap

Thank you both for your responses.... I'm starting to make good progress. I now have several of the camera's showing up in the new switch and therefore, have been able to add them to Blue Iris. I was previously using GeoVision's NVR software. The cameras are assigned addresses via DHCP. I've...

    Long outdoors netwok cable run

As it relates to fibre there are many types of end connectors. Generally speaking, you would be using (LC) connectors. Since you have limited space in the conduit your choice has already been decided for you unless you had the skill, tools, and knowledge to split & join fibre. In this case you...

    Long outdoors netwok cable run

@Teken thanks for your suggestions. Fiber sounds promising and would be something new for me to work on. Thanks for the alert on grounding. About a year ago I got coax based internet service. Front porch camera/conduit/junction box installation questions

My $0.02 from the peanut gallery: - conduit appears overkill to me. Camera itself just as easy to damage/rip off as cable, and weather/sunlight exposure seems at or near near zero under roof right above... so I don't get using conduit?? I am assuming a quality outdoor rated cable (not...

Does anyone know if massachusetts legally requires low voltage license to install security cameras?

They do for fire and alarm systems. This may help clarify what some of the different licenses mean: https://www.mass.gov/doc/electricians-consumer-fact-sheet/download One could argue that installing cameras is basically the same as installing network wiring. Call up the state DOL (just don't...

Ubiquiti Lite AP AC (LAP-120-US) connecting to Nanostations (NS-5AC-US)

Hello, I am currently taking on a project to put cameras on light poles surrounding our property. I have ordered 6 of the LAP’s (building is massive and that many is required to have line of sight to the nanostations) and I’ve got 10 nanostations (1 for each pole). I’ve been able to log into...
