    US Elections (& Politics) :)

France and England, while not as large,, immediately come to mind. Making excuses for ineptitude and deception by election officials, from the top down does not cure anything. How can they run out of ink or paper ballots as one simple example? Why do lopsided vote counts always occur in the...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

Let's see, the old fashioned paper ballot method, hand counted, produced results overnight. The "new" automated signature verification systems and counting systems need a week or more. What's wrong with this picture. The appearance of opportunity to manipulate counts caused by excessive, and...

Actually that was pretty impressive that you did that. I'm sure it's not in the job description.

Do I NEED a camera in this location?

The only answer is to test it yourself at night. Daytime screen caps, or even nigh time screen caps won't help at all. I do think that those cameras are both mounted too high though.

Thank you, and that seems so inadequate.

    Happy Landings Camera setup.

I'll make a guess that he's using some form of AI and has built and trained his own model to work with the AI.

Andy do you have a camera that has a better lense than the IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E? all of mine start leaking and fogging up in a year or so

I've had an older bullet leak, too. Pulled it apart, dried it out, replaced the desiccant and added a couple of extra bags, put it back together and used clear silicon seal on the face plate and around the joint where the front cover meets the body. No problems since and it's out in an exposed...

Powering IR illuminators with camera DC connector: How many watts?

I've seen a few guys that have opened up a camera and bypassed things to get 12VDC out on that connector. In good conscience I can't recommend doing that because of the risk of overloading, and ultimately blowing the PoE board in the camera. Better to use a splitter and "Y" cable.

Powering IR illuminators with camera DC connector: How many watts?

If you mean the DC connector that is attached to the camera, itself, you're reading voltage leaking through the diode that is there to prevent drawing power from that connector. The PoE converter in the camera is designed to support the camera only and no external devices. If you want to do...

    open source Blue iris alternative

You can pick up legit Win10/Pro license keys for ~$20 USD so cost isn't much of a factor. Shut off updates and it'll run forever. My system hasn't had a BSOD incident in well over seven years, since I shut down updates and only update what I want, when I want. Compared to jumping through the...

    Reolink - good & bad

Have a look at the language in your policy. There should be a "like kind and quality" clause regarding replacement equipment. I beat up my insurance company over that, years ago, to get a Jag MK10 repaired back to original.

Will 3500 Twitter coders learn how to weld?

If I'm not mistaken, coal is the only cheap fuel that can reach the temperatures needed for making steel. I know electricity can as well, but the amount of energy needed in KWH is far higher than the amount of coal needed to obtain those same temperatures, plus where's the solar farm and wind...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

It's no longer Election Day or even Election Week. It's Election Season which is totally ludicrous. One day a year out of your life to exercise one of the most sacred and valued rights of a Democracy isn't too much to ask. There are alternate methods, absentee ballots have been around for...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

We used to have results the Wednesday after election day. Now we spend hundreds of millions of dollars on computerized systems that don't work reliably and are not capable of actually counting the vote accurately. We're talking about an event that happens once a year, not every day and yet it...

    Bi questions

As I said, the processors in laptops and micro PCs are designed to limit themselves as they heat up from increasing loads. The generation of the processor has nothing to do with that, it is how laptops are built to run without burning themselves up. A used business class machine can be had for...

    Bi questions

Micro PCs and laptops will not run BI properly Their processor throttle with load and BI can load them quite a bit. A used business class i5 or i7, 8th generation, with enough room and connections for a few hard drives is the best bet. If you use sub streams energy usage will be low...

    ipcamtalk newbie

I tried a bargain brand and found them lacking and unreliable. If you're happy with whatever you've got, good for you. As with everything, you get what you pay for. If the IR is off at night how will the camera see anything, let alone motion, so that it can turn on the IR? On top of that you...
