PTZ Network cable fishing advice/help please

I think you gave him the best options considering the lack of post construction access on the home. Do you have any crawlspace access to any of those roof vents to get the line to the switch?

Help needed with Dahua SD42212SN PTZ install

ok yeah if you don't have IR you can tuck it in nicely or as low as you want to see horizontally. Your best bet may be in fact to cut out a triangular board that produces area large enough to mount the base flush. Then attach the long triangular ends to the flat spots between two of the...

Help needed with Dahua SD42212SN PTZ install

A few different options that may help in the link below. Just be aware that if you don't hang it low enough, the ptz when looking at the level horizon may reflect the IR off the gutters or lip of the bordering rafter assuming that mini ptz has IR. I have white painted gutters and the ptz when...

IPad Hotspot as an Internet provider

i would be careful about streaming video continuously over a wireless carrier unless you have some unlimited plan, you will burn through the data limits on residential plans fairly quickly with any sort of regular use. Even some of the carriers "unlimited plans" are known to throttle people...

Ideas for "fishing" cat5 through a finished ceiling

I don't do commercial installs beyond my worksplace and my own home, but i do it the best way every time. Boroscopes can be had off ebay for ~50 and i use it for engine assembly as well, so it was easier for my to justify its use over time as multi-purpose tool. you'd be surprised at what you...

    Discussion Topic: Home Automation

I think the Vera units are important for the DIY type folks. Reasoning is the connectivity to legacy Ademco/Honeywell and DSC type alarms with the AD2USB adapter. Home automation requires programming/customizing, and its almost always unique so you need someone who can cater it to the...

SSD install with windows 7 going bad!

clonezilla will and its available free with an open license. you will have to burn a cd with the iso image and then boot to the cd, then follow the prompts. typically i backup the old drive to a usb drive, but if you have both drives plugged into the machine you can backup the old drive to the...

Ideas for "fishing" cat5 through a finished ceiling

I guess the question is do the ceiling beams run in parallel to direction you want to push the wire? Fiberglass push sticks work well to fish the wire up/down walls but also in ceilings, but they can still get caught easily in walls where there might be a wall nailer, a noggin, or a cripple...

What make's a residential camera good for Facial Recognition

Getting good facial recognition has probably more to do with where the camera is being placed in relation to the approach. being at close to eye level, located in a position likely to catch the person looking directly at the camera, and having a long approach toward the camera for a better...

No signal on three of my cameras. Foscam works fine.

Did you set the path to /videofeed for the cameras in settings? I got a few android phones to work no problem in BI, albeit they were slow over WiFi which is a different problem altogether. Just an FYI, I thought your post came across as a veiled threat. Nobody that I know of here providing...

Do you guy's run your digital noise setting at 100%

yeah i thought it was related to the i-frame having a mismatch or not providing a high enough bitrate but after adjusting those it was still apparent. i'm guessing the post processing of the noise reduction is causing lag. maybe someone else has an opinion on it, but may be what it is.

Do you guy's run your digital noise setting at 100%

on a few HIK's i've gotten ghosting. so while the noise gets reduced, the movement starts appearing ghosted.

Considerations for Installations whether DIY or Professional

I'm going to make this short and to the point. I've worked with some installers who were great at different aspects of a job, but were lacking in some areas where I think a customer should be concerned if they want to get the best performance out of any system, even a poorly spec'd one that may...

DIY Junction Box Mount for HIK Dome

DIY Junction Box Mounts for HIK Dome, Dahua Bullet, and Poker PTZ Seen the bullets mounted to the round metal outdoor boxes and done those no problem, but the HIK domes with the 4.3" base wouldn't allow access to put the lid back on the box on the 4" round boxes. OK... so why am not able to make a patch cable that works!

Flight, while i didn't read in detail all of the replies, what I would do is test the cable with your cable tester. Next connect a laptop or something to it. If you can pull an IP address and it tests fine, but the camera doesn't, it is likely just too far with enough voltage drop to not work...

Want to try a hikvision camera

yeah not trying to turn this into a bullet vs dome debate, they both have their application. i have some eve mounted dahua bullets and i occasionally get spiders. its something i'm sure that could be remedied with repellent, but it happens so rarely and they go away that its not a big deal...

Want to try a hikvision camera

Yes, sorry I did mean dome. Out of curiosity, what do you mean by the turrets having the best IR? Is this based on particular turrets having more powerful IR LED's, more in a given arrangement, less refraction of light creating a more directed light vs the globe's curvature? just seemed like...

Want to try a hikvision camera

i use two 2132's in my garage and they work great. there is no light bleed with the IR like i have seen folks mention and post about with the turrets. This may have been related to people adjusting the lens axis while not ensuring the lens sealed to the globe properly allowing the light to...

    I made a better remote-live-view page [OLD]

This just gets better and better. If anyone upgrades make sure you refresh the webpage on the remote machine after you replace the webserver files. Everything seems to be working great. Nice job bp2008, I use this at work everyday and enjoy this UI for remote monitoring. I sit on the same...

Suggestions for 2d Home IP system -- been hit already -- figure they'll be back.

since you have an alarm system, if its a Honeywell/Ademco Vista or DSC, you could get an Envisalink3 and hook it up to your LAN to get internet connectivity for self monitoring. used in conjunction with the cameras i would think you could identify real threats vs false alarms.

Blue Iris Port Forwarding problems, with Double Router Setup with Comcast Business

Re: Blue Iris Port Forwarding problems, with Double Router Setup with Comcast Busines ipcamdude gave the best option. no need to make things complicated. run your cisco modem/gateway as the main gateway and subnet. don't connect the WAN on the 2nd router and connect one of the LAN ports on...

    Worst 97 point turn ever

Help! I'm lost in the software installation maze!

your router address is the same as your gateway. you can take a guess at it. usually default is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 put that in your web browser address bar. If neither of those work you will need to setup some basic port forwarding or NAT (network address translation) for ports...

bp2008, love the web interface over the past few weeks it is really convenient to use remotely. wondering if when you select on a specific camera for live view that the alert list would sort on only alerts from that camera only, much like the interface does in windows. I like being able to...
