    Upgrade Comcast Router/Modem combo?

Cool,...glad to know a different router AND modem is an option even with Triple Play. And I read in a different post days ago about the rent vs own cost difference and I believe I am paying $10/month rent!! (haven't really "looked at" a bill lately,....it hurts a little less to just...

    Upgrade Comcast Router/Modem combo?

Damn,...just when I thought I was getting the hang of some of this! Looks like I need to read up and price out yet more hardware!! Again I am clueless,....but is what you are saying here possibly to NOT purchase a separate router and instead buy a gigibit switch and do the bridge thing...

Wow,...never even considered that! Thanks t84a. I will definitely have to look into that. Not sure yet what VPN is or does although I'm pretty sure it is for security issues. But I want the best safest system possible so I will have to do yet more research!! It never ends!!!! :banghead:

    Upgrade Comcast Router/Modem combo?

Thanks Kawboy. Any chance you could give a quick reason to why or how I would get substantial benefits? I am completely clueless with network lingo but would like to know how it would make my system better. I am going to guess because it may not use as much bandwith, give me better speeds...

    Upgrade Comcast Router/Modem combo?

Not really sure of the exact model,...just know it is a router/modem combo. If I have any problems I will definitely...

    Considering Dahua

Awesome. Thanks looney2ns! I am going to order cat6 from Monoprice, Klein tool from Amazon/Homedepot, some fish tape since mine has been cut to who knows how short!,....and "for now" to start, 4 varifocal 5231's, and 1 varifocal 5231-ZE (just to see the difference), and a 16ch Dahua NVR. Still...

    Considering Dahua

Again SLC,...this thread is not about asking for advice and direction,.....I am asking for opinions -based on my pictures-on what camera to use and where to place it. I have seen other threads asking same question with photos of their house,...and then other people give ideas of possible...

    Considering Dahua

Hopefully a lot of you haven't seen any of my previous posts (and sorry to the other guys who are probably sick of reading my posts!),..but I have been swearing by going with Hikvision just so I could go through Nelly's and use their awesome support. However, after reading almost every thread...

    Upgrade Comcast Router/Modem combo?

Any advice on whether or not I should upgrade my Xfinity router/modem combo for an IP PoE system? I'm not even sure if it is compatible as every pic I see has people using a separate cable and router. I have Comcast Triple Play (Phone TV Internet) package so hopefully I don't "have to" keep...

HIK EXIR = HIK "low light"?

Good stuff right there! I think they just like making things more confusing! At least you guys can read a spec sheet and understand it. Thanks again fenderman. Actually, not sure if you have seen this photo of my house,... but here it is again. The landscape lighting is now LED so I...

HIK EXIR = HIK "low light"?

Yeah I agree,...sometimes I dig too deep and go overboard! I'm sure either camera would be fine for my needs. Very true,...but I was just thinking with 0 experience and knowledge it might be best I have some tech support readily available just a phone call away! I am looking forward to messing...

HIK EXIR = HIK "low light"?

HAHA Now you guys REALLY got me all sorts of F'd up with all this mutually/NOT mutually exclusive stuff! But to answer your question,...I have absolutely NO idea if I want/need low light or EXIR. I was originally thinking the EXIR would have better IR than standard cameras making...

    Hikvision NVR compatibility

Since I am pretty sure I will be purchasing my system from Nelly's for their lifetime support and decent prices ( Plus they support this awesome site!) - it looks I will be going the Hikvision route Anyway, I may want to add a few other Hikvisoin cameras that Nelly's does not carry. (hopefully...

HIK EXIR = HIK "low light"?

OK now I am completely confused,....again! LOL. But when I look at BH's website,...they offer EXIR cameras in typical 3,4,5 MP's,....but the 8MP's do not mention EXIR, but do say "Ultra Low Light". Obviously I need to check out that thread. That being said I have another question about...

HIK EXIR = HIK "low light"?

Thanks Probird! Would you still recommend the Hikvision "Low Lights" over the EXIR's as well. The price difference between the EXIR and Non EXIR isn't too bad,....but man those Hik Low Lights are expensive!!! Plus Nelly's does not carry them,..but I did see them on BH Photo for right under $450...

HIK EXIR = HIK "low light"?

Sorry fenderman,...but just to clarify,... when you say they are that much better, you are referring to the "low light" being much better than EXIR, Correct? Or were you saying that EXIR is much better than regular IR cameras? .......Or are both statements equally true?!!! LOL

HIK EXIR = HIK "low light"?

HHmmm,....that's why I thought they may be the same?!! I figured the IR was a special IR that made them "low light" So I am guessing it is safe to say Nelly's does not carry the low or ultra low light Hikvisions (yet). Any idea if they are THAT much better than the regular EXIR's,...and...

HIK EXIR = HIK "low light"?

Are the Hikvision EXIR cameras that Nelly's sells the same as the Hikvision "low light" or "ultral ow light" cameras I keep hearing about? Sorry if that's a stupid question but I'm really not sure if they are the same!

FYI - Black Friday deals from Lorex ( Dahua OEM )

How good is 4K though? The more I think about it I remember reading that sometimes more MP's isn't always good, possibly not as good in low light situations. Pretty sure I read somewhere that Hikvisions 2MP's performed better than some of their 3 or 4 MP cameras. Again ,..I have been in research...

Got ya. Thanks mat! Still haven't decided on exactly which system to go with, but I was curious cause that is a nice sale! Hopefully Nelly's will have some BF sales and can just stick to my original game plan. Been researching my butt off and now have like 24000 bookmarks on my computer...

FYI - Black Friday deals from Lorex ( Dahua OEM )

I watched a video on Youtube from Backstreet surveillance,...and the guy said Lorex was made of cheap plastic. Are these really metal OEM Dahua that Andy or B&H would sell? Also,...are these cameras comparable to the highly rated Dahua 5231's?

Help with camera choices AND placement

Awesome! Thanks everyone. Those few options definitely helped, kind of gave me the kickstart that I needed. It is nice to know I am not the only one who started this venture "completely blind" and knowing nothing. I think the intimidation part was making it worse. But I will keep on reading...

Help with camera choices AND placement

I have been considering using Andy. And I have read that he does offer some technical support. But being a complete newbie I have a feeling after installed I will be asking every dumb newbie question possible to get the system perfect and not sure he offers that support like Nelly's.
