Besides Blue Iris, what else is there there?

Like the tittle says gentleman. Is there another competitor worth looking at? I think I am going to ditch synolys surveillance station for now.

Upgrade to NVR or continue with NAS

@mat200 I completely agree with the facts on you forst point. And thank for for the deilad response. You mentioned that a PC based VMS solution uses rtsp. Does camera onvif support not come into play in this scenario or route? Also, when using a VMS like blue Iris or others we can use cameras...

Upgrade to NVR or continue with NAS

I didnt see it either. I am glad this thread was created. I have a NAS from synology runnig "Surveillance Station 6" which is their ip cam /vms /nvr offering. I am a. It dissapointed that it does. Not support any of the smart camera functions such as trip wire, missing object etc that the new...

    Camera video lag

I am going to connect my nvr to the switch that has the cameras connected it to them as you mention. I currently have it connected to the router, maybe that is slowing things down since its negotiating internet and other traffic. Thanks for the good feedback.

    Camera video lag

Thank you. I am going to be re-doing my NVR this weekend with a new WD purple drive and adding more ram to the NVR/NAS unit. That should help, I am starting to understand why many of the folks here like to use PC based NVRs as opposed to packaged systems.

Which Resolution & Bitrate are you using or recommended?

Does this mean that for a 5mp camera, their recomender fps is 8? Despite it can go higher? Is this is order to maintain video fluency? Btw i really appreciate you sharing that info. Seem like 2mp is where it is at if you want high frame rate.

Which Resolution & Bitrate are you using or recommended?

@looney2ns I noticed your reply and I want to learn from you. I have my cams set up to 15 fps VBR and with the bit rate allowance set to the max (much higher than what you indicated). Here is my question. Is there a drawback to how i am setting up my cams? It CBR better and at that set to a...

Which Resolution & Bitrate are you using or recommended?

@Camit , but if you need 100 pixels across someone's face for ID purposes, (well lit conditions) based on what I have read, with a 1/2.8 1/2.9 or 1/3" sensor which is typically found on most mid range dahuas or hikvison cameras, having more MP shlould help on dicerning features at a given...

    Camera video lag

Hi there sorry for leaving out so many important variables. The one camera is a hikvision IP 1.0 (from 2012?) Its a 4mp camera. I know it is older, but it has also happened with reolink 5mp (I know) amcrest (I know) and even some of the nicer dahua turrest. The cameras are hard wired. The...

    Camera video lag

Guys what are some factors that contribute to lag or delay in video? I noticed that cameras get very slow in low light conditions also. Thanks.

Which Resolution & Bitrate are you using or recommended?

Please correct me if i am wrong guys, but depending on the proximity of the subject you are looking at (distance) you can have a mixture of camera MP. I have a 4k and a few 4mp cameras. The 4k is the one camara that is looking at my driveway (main camera at that location) I chose the 4k in...

New functions for line crossing detection (FW R6 5.4.4)

I am trying to set this up with a hikvison camera. Does anyone have any experience setting this up with Hikvision? This is what I am dealing with but I can't confirm it is working or not. There doesn't seem to be any visual hints. Here is a screenshot of what I am seeing in the setup page...

Hello guys, I having some difficulty understating how to configure line crossing within in a IP 2.0 4MP camera. Below is the view I want to monitor at one entrance. As you can see the path is between a wall and a column. I have drawn a line as shown and selected A to B as the detection...

IP Cam in a car -- It works better than you think.

This is great for a dashcam, but how about if there was a way to do this while the car was parked outside my house. Connected to my wifi. The car would be an additional camera. Im sorry if I missed this, how are you powering you camera and in car router? I ask because at least the router is...

It really sucks that if a ballzy perp says fk the cameras and acts there is not much we can do. How about wave an m12 or something from inside. Honestly I would make myself some sort of paint gun (non lethatl force) weapon and try that.

suspicious vehicle - looks like they wanted to steal my package

I had nest and arlo. Luckily I was able to send back the arlo. Not a bad system but i think 24/7 recording is important (glad the wiki confirmed it). Nest being wireless was just inconsistent. I was forced to upgrade. I am in the process of playing perp around my property and I go back to the...
