Hey, you have crown moulding on the exterior of your house, wow, I never thought about that but it looks good--fancy! :) So, are you still liking it? It has two-way audio...?
Hmmm... I'm not sure if my HOA would allow something that looks like a pair of tits staring back at them.... :) Seriously though, the image quality of the humans at night were very low contrast. What do you do, mount two cams on most or all corners? Thanks!
I like the idea of a critter cam, something mounted down low I would assume..... Where do you mount your critter cams? Recommended cams or use whatever is not critically in use elsewhere?
I always thought that a motion-activated flood light would seriously blow out the IPcam image for a while (possibly critical moments) as the auto-iris corrects. So, is there a way to make this work? I see that Dahua has this Floodlight cam, and as I mentioned I always thought these two items...
Cool beans! My Pi is sitting on a dining room chair with no UPS backup and connects WiFI only, but okay. When a cam restarts does it lose time completely?
On a typical corner of a home, I suspect that it's optimal coverage to have two cams mounted, with different views. Is there a single Dahua cam that fits two 5231 or 5442 level cams in a single housing? I think it might look better cosmetically.
Thanks,
R
I'm a Mac user that does have a Pi Zero running as a PiHole, what's the optimal time serving scenario. Let it piggy-back on any computer that is normally on and that has a UPS? Or, a dedicated Raspberry Pi? Or, something else?
My UNIFI switch was showing one of my POE devices as “Zhejiang 38:21” with a vendor label as “Zhejiang”. Have you ever noticed that on your Dahua cams? I do see that name associated with Dahua but I was surprised to see it.
I was looking at the DS1819+ to be used as a large repository for all local computers... I was asking what unit because Synology make surveillance specific units.
Does BI allow you to use all of the IVS/Smart events (and AI?) from new Dahua cameras, or do Dahua NVRs allow some cool functionality when paired with a proper Dahua cam?
What Synology are you using? Keep us upto date this sounds great. So, do you like the way the NVR and phone app on the Synology works better than the Dahua NVR?
So, I know I’ll be burned at the stake for mentioning this but, do you like the UNIFI cams? Do you have experience with that ecosystem? I’m tempted to buy into the system just to test it so that I’ll fully know how and when to deploy. Is there something really appealing about UNIFI Protect and...
@samplenhold notice that the tear sheet differs from the B&H model. BH shows 3 year warranty not 5 and the extra little lens thing is shown on the BH photo... take a look.

That’s what I’ve observed. The famously well performing cams like the 5231 and others have no USA market counterpart that I can determine. I was just curious. Are these cams in America? Thanks.
I’ve heard that, but I’m still interested in knowing if certain cams are being distributed with other modem numbers in other markets yet are virtually identical.
thanks for your reply. I think I understand it better now. I think he updates page one with new FW links. Somehow I downloaded a word doc with links and was expecting that to be the latest recommended and the DropBox links failed to work. This afternoon I wanted to do the FW update but that never...
Just out of curiosity are there Dahua cams intended for the North American market that directly match the specs of the now famous 5231 EZ (turret) and the new 5442 that some say replaces or competes well against the 5231? Are the same exact cams in NA but sold under a different model number and...
Okay, referring to a turret cam manual, I’ll use the precise Dahua terms. What I was calling a trim ring, they call a Pedestal. And the cover around the eyeball with the security Allen type screw is called the Enclosure...
LinkIng to a 10,900 word essay talking about the ups and downs of various firmware versions are not so useful.
Seriously, what’s the latest, recommended, proven version?!???
Stupidly, the trim ring on the 5231 has an opening to allow the cord to be external. This seems beyond stupid. So, how do you deal with a big hole in your otherwise water tight assembly? It seems like the cam could fill with water from that ridiculous hole.
It's a personal choice. As a broadcast production guy it gives me pleasure. Also, I recall Andy saying this could be changed. The dropdown shows no NTSC option.
Right, I did not port-forward any cams..... but I also did not do anything special to stop them form phoning home. as I recall. Should I just remove the gateway info or the DNS settings in the cam. I'll look for a cliff note on this.
