New addition pre-wire junction box help>

Going to hug the eaves of the house to better protect the cameras from the elements. Eaves are about 9ft to ground level approximately (9ft walls on house). My thought process now to future proof is to maybe install one of the nail on single gang low voltage boxes (orange hollow ones) and...

New addition pre-wire junction box help>

Hi All, in process of building an extension off the back of my house and doing a lot of pre-wire work before siding goes up. I only have a week or so left to get everything complete before my guys come in and get the addition weather tight. I'm running smurf tube so I can easily chase cat6a...

Interior camera choice help and installation ideas>

Looks like an interesting camera, but I can't find any online searching around, let alone even a round about price for it. Assuming you could connect a PIR sensor into the alarm input section of this camera? A PT camera you can pan and tilt remotely?

Interior camera choice help and installation ideas>

Interesting idea, didn't think of the little cubes. The specs say the IR is good for 10m. I think the distance from the front door to the corner of the ceiling I'd install is approximately 40' in distance. About how far do you say the IR is lighting up the room? And is the room completely dark...

Want to place a camera inside the house in the corner of a room with a 90* field of view (of the front window of the home and front entrance). The camera would be mounted to the ceiling. Really not sure what type/style camera may be best for the mounting position, but also performance. Night...

POE switch necessary in my scenario with POE NVR ?

If you did this, wouldn't you need a POE switch to power the individual cameras?

Adding a single camera dedicated monitor for the front door entrance, possible?

Thanks guys, great suggestions! Any recommendations on a smallish tablet that could work where I could mount to the wall or on a stand?

NVR with or without POE, benefits and capabilities over one or another?

Thanks for the heads up! No idea the Cat6a was so sensitive. Will need to be a bit more gentle when running through all the joists I drilled lol! Think I've been doing pretty good though. The 6-3 NM wire I ran through the joists for future hot tub is a different story!!!!

Front door camera angle and interference, can I get this to work?

Now that I know where I can put some cameras on the back of my house, figure see if I'm on the right track for the front of the house. I attached two pictures showing the corner where I would position the camera, and the view the camera would have (via my android phone camera). The top left...

Need help determining best location for camera on back of house>>

Thank you! Basically follows same principle then as point shoot cameras vs video cameras, makes sense especially if the sensors are the same size.

Adding a single camera dedicated monitor for the front door entrance, possible?

With all the research I've been doing, and the fact I tore up more dry wall last night by the front door to run a wire, I started thinking about if there was a way to integrate a small 7" or 9" monitor of some sort that would have a live stream from the front door camera. Rather than running to...

NVR with or without POE, benefits and capabilities over one or another?

Lol! Nah, just a few precautions that required use of this cable, like future proofing, hdmi over ethernet, and the fact I can only run these lines about 6" away from power lines in certain areas (in middle of renovation), so want to reduce risk of interference. Was only a few dollars more to...

Need help determining best location for camera on back of house>>

I think I just read that 2mp is a bit better at night than 3mp cameras? I tried to look for a 2mp 1 matrix camera, but come up with only turrets, no bullets. I think what I will do is a get a 2.8mm 2mp or 4mp 1 matrix bullet and mount it high by the spot lights (2nd floor) that shine down to...

NVR with or without POE, benefits and capabilities over one or another?

Sound like if I can't find any NVR's without built in POE, then I should look for an NVR that meet the 802.3af and 802.2at standard. This would allow me to run a single cable from the NVR (located in office) to the POE Switch I'd located in the laundry room (in a cabinet). This method of...

NVR with or without POE, benefits and capabilities over one or another?

Most NVR's I see discussed here have POE on each of the ports. What about NVR's that do not have POE and their capability? Are they any quieter than NVR's with POE built in? I'm curious if a non POE NVR may be best for what I'm trying to do, or would POE NVR's work as well as they are more...

Need help determining best location for camera on back of house>>

This is pretty neat. Not sure how it works exactly, but my guess is it's using the houses electrical lines as the transmission line for data? This works with having power on different breakers?

Didn't realize I had an old picture of the house before the slider was installed, sorry guys! The double window in the middle of the house is where the slider was installed. There will be a light to the right of the door per code. I can mount a camera above the light easily (since no dry wall on...

Have a new home under renovation and am trying to pre-plan any wiring I need to run before closing up the walls. Most the construction is in the kitchen area, which is to the right of the family room (family room is on left with it's independent roof over top) all the way to the middle window...

    Dome v Bullet

So if you wanted to put a camera by the front door (where there are pillars from the overhang of the roof and some chairs and wind chimes that would be in the way of the video feed), a turret or bullet would be best due to IR reflection (vs dome)?

Which NVR with alarm input, and is it worth it?

Looking to get an NVR with the option of having an alarm input. Have a new home I'm renovating and thinking about getting something I can expand upon in the future. I'm going to start out with a camera system, but would like the option to expand to door/window sensors. Having difficulty...

    Black Cameras?

I have this same problem, except my house is a very dark brown color and want the cameras to blend in, not stand out. Maybe I could paint the housings to match? Not sure if anyone has ever done that with any luck?

Need ideas on setup in new home and advice on options looking for (turrets, nvr etc)

In a new home renovating and wife wants a security system. Doing ton of research and finally decided on doing an economical IP system with NVR. I'm dreaming likely, but budgeting around $7-800 max to start with. The home is your typical colonial tutor style with 2 car garage up front, front...
