    Dahua DB6I / EmpireTec Model DB5X - 5MP Doorbell Initial Unboxing / Findings / Tips & Tricks / Comparison Video

Too late for that now. You've burnt out the power supply already. The USB plug bypasses the internal power supply so you'll be able to boot it up that way, but there's no way of recovering the other power supply without some electronics knowledge, and disassembly.

Hidden at the bottom of that screen in tiny letters is the option to skip instead of choosing either mechanical or digital. If you choose skip the doorbell will be set up to work properly on a bench without any chime connected. As I said earlier, in proper operation connected to an actual chime...

    Dahua DB6I / EmpireTec Model DB5X - 5MP Doorbell Initial Unboxing / Findings / Tips & Tricks / Comparison Video

Most likely you connected the doorbell on your bench and told it a chime was connected. You should never under any circumstances do that with this doorbell, as doing so will cause it to burn out its internal power supply the first time you press the doorbell button. If you hook it up without a...

I was successful in downgrading mine, however there is no guarantee that you will have the same success, nor is it guaranteed that a future firmware update will not break that ability. I would certainly be very reluctant to buy hardware counting on that ability.

The update is that if you do a firmware update, you lose the ability to do URL commands completely. You end up locked into using only the DMSS app, and lose any ability to integrate with any other form of automation or system. It's also only a matter of time before newer cameras come with newer...

Thanks for finding that, But with the limitations, and the cloud based system, I have to agree with GaryOkie: This looks like a major step backwards and would make it very difficult to recommend this product to anyone wanting to integrate the doorbell into any other system. After downgrading...

DH-DB6I Doorbell warning, DO NOT UPGRADE FIRMWARE!

In this case I was not "upgrading for the sake of upgrading", I was actually experiencing an issue that I hoped the update would resolve. It turned out that my issue was not with the firmware though, my issue turned out to be NVR related, but by the time I figured that out (and solved it) it was...

DH-DB6I Doorbell warning, DO NOT UPGRADE FIRMWARE!

I recently noticed in the DMSS app that my doorbell cameras had a firmware update pending. The new firmware was Eng_N_V1.000.020000000.7.R.20220615 and the release notes said: After upgrading, I noticed that button press events were no longer being sent to Home Assistant using the Dahua...

    Review-Dahua/EmpireTech new doorbell cam Db6l 5mp

After setup, the app is only needed for 2-way voice communication. Everything else can be done in other ways. I've left it installed for that reason, but I have all the camera streams going through Frigate and notifications from Home Assistant. If you have no use for 2-way voice, then you don't...

SmartPSS is only for changing settings, it won't interfere with other applications, and doesn't need to stay installed. As for why dahua choose to release to a bunch of OEMs before themselves, no idea their rationale, but seems pretty clear looking at all the ones that are known to just rebrand...

So my NVR can't change config on dahua cameras, I'm sure a dahua NVR could, but that's not what I have. Seems the answer is to use the SmartPSS app to change the encoding. somewhat kludgy, but it works. Also allows you to add a text overlay which you can't do in DMSS, and adjust picture settings...

    Dahua DB6I / EmpireTec Model DB5X - 5MP Doorbell Initial Unboxing / Findings / Tips & Tricks / Comparison Video

I'm now using the Dahua version (DH-DB6I) and it's way better than my previous attempts. That said, there are some issues. Most glaring for me right now is that the RTSP stream for the main feed appears to be H.265 (sub stream is H.264) meaning that it can't be viewed in a browser without...

    A New Doorbell

Well, there are definitely other mysteries to sort out. It seems that the main stream is H.265, while the sub-stream is H.264, unfortunately that means that in a browser I can only watch the sub-stream, as browsers don't support H.265. So at the moment, I get the advantage of the full resolution...

I'm glad you had a positive experience with them! Unfortunately I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to have to try Dahua's warranty support too. I bought 2 of the DB-6I units, the first one installed perfectly first try, and seems to be working great. Unfortunately the second one doesn't seem...

    A New Doorbell

I got my Dahua branded DB-6I this week from B&H, and can confirm that the API for revealing button push is there as I had expected. This is working great for me, pushing the button sends the signal through the API to my Home Assistant automation which sends an MQTT event to an ESP8266 which...

I'm sure hoping he's wrong. The amcrest version is supported by that integration, seems unlikely this wouldn't be. I'll know in a week when my cameras get here. If it's not, then I'll really be forced to use the relays on it and monitor the chime, but as I've said before I'm really leary of that...

I think I'm missing something then, what do you mean by "capture"? The doorbell this thread is about does act like a traditional doorbell, during setup you select either mechanical, or digital, chime, and it rings the normal chime in your house just fine. I assumed by capture that you meant an...

Does it expose the same API as the Amcrest ones? If so, then this should be accessible there and can be captured by such things as home assistant using the dahua add-on, or amcrest2mqtt. I hope it does, my doorbells from B&H Photo have shipped, and after my Amcrest experience I don't dare hook...

Amcrest is purely US based. They ship to Canada frome the USA. Be warned. If you have any problems, they DO NOT honour their warranty in any way shape or form. I had 2 AD410s die within a week of purchase, I finally got most of my money back, but it involved complaints to the better business...

For exactly the same reasons I stated the first time, with higher resolution you can identify more people at further distances. Given your argument, you might as well save bandwidth by having a two pixel by two pixel sensor. You won't be able to see anything, but apparently that's not important...

For security applications fps is a waste. I also hadn't seen those disappointing field of view angles. Nor had I noticed that the lower resolution is also at a worse aspect ratio. If you can't see how more resolution allows you to identify more people though.... Yikes, this certainly isn't...
