    Are Axis camera's worth it?

I have installed Axis before, usually in larger commercial places schools hospitals. They are nice solid cameras. Easy to install, configure, reliable etc, I have also installed HIK visions, I believe the 10% failure rate and have experienced close to that. I hated installing them.. Support is...

This looks promising and works with Honeywell Vista - I would try it but I am in a rental and have my 2-Gig set up. A couple Homemade DIY- The technology is simple, just seems unprofitable for companies to manufacture it. Homemade "Alarmino" Lior's projects Homemade "arduino" Upgrading Your...

Self Monitored System w/cell text messages?

All the back up cell devices I have installed in alarm systems were made to call and talk the computer at the monitoring stations. Do you know of any that can be configured to call a person cell number and relay an alert ?

Self Monitored System w/cell text messages?

Actually most of their systems use hardwired phone lines with back up cell. I do not pay for monitoring on my own stuff. I have a cam with alerts, BUT.. it is not that dependable.. Not near as dependable as hardwired alarm with cel backup. Like the OP I am interested in personal monitoring...

Self Monitored System w/cell text messages?

Here in Denver CO, when an alarm is set to "panic", it will go thru the alarm company first but it is an instant dispatch. I am pretty sure it is not a personal call from the alarm company just a panic relay. It is an issue with the police after 2-3 of these calls they charge the business for...

Not worth the time or trouble.

With opensource volunteer build software you can't really complain to much. You try it out -- if it doesn't preform, check it out again next year when you have sometime. I have tried Zoneminder, I don't have the time or interest to deal with it. I love Linux but the same issues of open source...

Self Monitored System w/cell text messages?

It really depends how you have you system monitor set it up. Alarms can be set to "panic" and just immediately send the police. A few times I have worked on alarms and they were not put in test mode properly, we would set them off and 3 seconds later the phone would ring it was the motioning...

I guess this guy decides driving around with a hot grill isn't such a good idea.

Disposable grill. His dumpster probably had a sign that said "Do not dispose of grills".

Why do people upgrade - they claim for security updates but, what are you doing ?

A lot of people have this attitude about security. It is basically an excuse not to spend effort on it. When you are linked to the internet you are linked to the world, thieves can harvest your address find out when you are not home(come and steal your squirrels or.. all of your jewelry and...

Why do people upgrade - they claim for security updates but, what are you doing ?

Computer and network usage 101 - Keep all software up to date. Someone could write a chapter on why but just google "why should I update my software" the subject is well documented.

Need advice for an indoor camera

It just seems like you are trying to get a camera to do the job of an alarm which it is not designed for. You can try it but seems like it will not be that accurate, dependable or reliable. I have serviced tons of wireless alarms that were up for years and working just fine. I put my sensors...

    Glass breakage detectors

I like glass breaks, when I worked for an alarm company they seemed to work well and I never saw any false alarms with them. I have them in my house, to test mine I put them in a bucket and smashed a beer bottle and they went off.

    A drone took this photo?

Nice pic. I would like to get a Drone that can do decent pics and videos, seems like I would have to spend around $1500. usd. Still too much for a toy that files around and could get lost. Maybe in a couple of years.
