Setup questions related to accessing BI through a routers VPN

Hey there, Just FYI, I use openVPN on my ASUS router to grant my iphone access to the local network even when Im away from the house. It works great when I want in, but since the VPN disables itself when I come and go, Ive found that I dont get notifications (presumably unless I turn my VPN...

New Router, BI box no longer responding to me across LAN

You guys are Rockstar's. Windows forced some cumulative update down my throat on the same day as my router upgrade and for whatever reason, the firewall was allowing public access but blocking private access to BI. Once I enabled Private, local access and also VPN access (phone>router>BI)...

New Router, BI box no longer responding to me across LAN

Hey gang For years – I accessed my BlueIris system perfectly from LAN and also through my phone>router openVPN connection (when I was offsite). Last week I upgraded my router to a faster model (Asus GT-AX11000) and for the most part, almost everything seems to be working perfectly…. The...

    Dumb question, fixed IP address?

Sorry - I thought I had to do something in the camera to lock it so it didn't made a request each time it started up.

    Dumb question, fixed IP address?

So every time my network goes down, my ip cameras all get brand new IP addresses. Inside of my ASus router I have them set to "static" in the list view so it SHOULD be reserving their slot for when they reconnect.....but it still gets reshuffled every time. please tell me what I am missing...

Switching from Lorex NVR to BlueIris, camera questions

I picked up a POE and small Dell precision SFF machine to act as a dedicated BI box; so far so good. I added the POE switch to my existing network and plugged in the camera, each port LED appears to be chattering away happily. The cameras are from my previous Lorex NVR system (3MP outdoor)...

BI dedicated server + POE switch, how to integrate/secure?

You guys rock, thank you Would I need a second router for the second network, or does the uplink of the POE switch just connect directly to that 2nd NIC on the BL-PC? (while the cams use the powered ports)

BI dedicated server + POE switch, how to integrate/secure?

Thanks for that. So is the point of having two NICs to allow a single BI PC to access both networks without those networks spilling on to each other? Bigger picture question, What is the drawback with simple placing the POE cameras and POE switch right on your existing home network?(I am using...

BI dedicated server + POE switch, how to integrate/secure?

Maybe I’m making this a bigger deal by doing a separate netwprk then? Would it be bad to simply joint them?

BI dedicated server + POE switch, how to integrate/secure?

Everything on my home network is connected to a switch, which itself is connected to an ASUS router (RT-AC87U). The cable modem feeds in to that directly. I’m pretty sure it supports vpn, but admittedly I need to educate myself how. Pardon my ignorance but Does a VPN essentially allow...

BI dedicated server + POE switch, how to integrate/secure?

OK so based on everyone's help, I picked up a refurb Dell Precision i7-6700 with 16Gb ram, and active 10 Pro seat, and a 256SSD for about $400. I also picked up a 10 port POE switch BVlink with giga-uplink for about $65. IL get a WD purple drive next and hopefully everything will play nice...

Did I buy junk? How to recover......

Pricing seems to be all over the place on these injectors. Some are even missing uplinks which means you lose a port; strange choice. Do you guys have any go-to models that that dont cost a leg? I've not head of this brand but if the reviews are solid and fakespot gives it an "A" I really...

Did I buy junk? How to recover......

why have the Lorex still active if the blue Iris in connected? doesn't BI replace the need for an NVR by encoding itself?

Did I buy junk? How to recover......

hey guys, I bought this set a few years ago and it’s always had pretty sketchy interface controls and random issues with connections to its cameras. However I finally got around to trying to add a few more cams and now the problems have just multiplied (cameras regularly dropping...

Can I add another camera to my Lorex LNR1182 system?

Fantastic thread, I had the exact same question as I bought the same system (thanks SlickDeals) Fenderman, I can confirm this NVR is indeed recording at 2048x1536 (im not sure why the spec sheet sells itself short) Any chance the LTS models (like CMIP3032-28) from MilkIsBad would work...

Lorex LNB3163 Cameras with Blue Iris?

Thanks! and I'm glad to hear I'm not locked into Lorex NVR's if I start with their system I hadnt considered turrets, mostly because I assumed they were PTZ style which for most of my placement isn't necessary. I'll read up on those now. For my Server, its running a Corei5-4590 (quadcore...

Lorex LNB3163 Cameras with Blue Iris?

Hey Gang, Costco is offering up a $200 discount on a nice looking Lorex Kit so I pulled the trigger (its shipping next week). This is a starting point for me, and admittedly, I opted to go this route because Im still pretty green and prefer the costco and Lorex-US support...
