IP Cam in a car -- It works better than you think.

Yep with $400 in parts that's more than possible from a tech stack perspective, so it's just a matter of creating the proper UX that makes it a more viable option than radio feedback/instruction/guidance.

IP Cam in a car -- It works better than you think.

Yep I'm still active-ish (At least still receiving alert e-mails, apparently haha) And if your first question is whether or not you can stream an RTSP feed from a small scooter to an NVR, the answer is yeah, why not! :)

IP Cam in a car -- It works better than you think.

Completely possible (...sorta) I did exactly this years ago to prove a point then and it actually ended up working quite well. Back then, cars had less fickle 12v systems so I doubt I'd want to try this nowadays but maybe it all depends on make/model. This was from a project back in 2012 using...

    Monitoring Status of Cameras

Nagios can notify you after doing intelligent deeper inspection via HTTP, SNMP, SSH, Telnet, etc. More usefully, I use it to LOG INTO the camera interface using credentials every 5-30 minutes depending on camera and location. I've found if the UI can't load through the authentication process...

    Inline POE switch

I spent a while stress testing and to learn its limits. If you don’t already have one and are into little handy tools for the collection, pick up a PoE multimeter. Little tiny box with a screen that displays power, amps, voltage, etc. Great for troubleshooting longer distances or sketchy wiring...

    Inline POE switch

(I used plain old 802.3af in the tests illustrated in those photos.) The box accepts both and the packaging and specs prefer AT, but I’ve never used them on anything other than AF.

IP Cam in a car -- It works better than you think.

Rates are all situational where you are wanting service and who is available etc etc -- Me personally this is being powered by $35/mo. Again, all situational. I live in a populated metro where it's impossible to not find 4G LTE, but to answer your question, what happens in Blue Iris (or any...

IP Cam in a car -- It works better than you think.

I don't understand what you mean when you ask for a full parts list? There's an IP camera, a router, and whatever you prefer or have access to as far as 4G connectivity. That's literally it as far as the car goes. If you're looking for a parts list that includes setup, detailed documentation...

IP Cam in a car -- It works better than you think.

For this instance, I can use a USB 4G modem plugged right into the router (it worked well) but the SIM card I'm using for this I like to use for a few things when not in the car so I keep it in a Unite Explore. 5 days of battery life. I keep it on me at all times anyways so whenever I hop in the...

IP Cam in a car -- It works better than you think.

Thanks all. Yellow brick router is a GL-MT300N and then just the TOP-308 IP Cam but feel free to substitute for something better or different depending on application. This was the only one I could use before my car started throwing error logs. This probably isn't an issue in most other cars...

IP Cam in a car -- It works better than you think.

I've been able to do some pretty miraculous things with 3G/4G cellular links over the past decade. Things people said were impossible at the time. Obviously the largest challenge with such a volatile network is reliability/consistency which, if you don't ace that part, it's not really worth...

Cannot watch clips through ip interface

Any time ActiveX gets pulled up, BI crashes hard and has to be reset. So again this is just a case of me having to update instruction sets for everyone I've done setups for and posting yet another bulletin ultimately reminding them of how unexpectedly unstable and volatile this program can be...

Cannot watch clips through ip interface

My windows 10 boxes seem fine. I haven't updated them though either with windows 10 or BI lately. The largest amount of issues seem to come from my server 2008 boxes

Cannot watch clips through ip interface

Does this mean ActiveX is now phased out at this point? I have no issues with updating procedures and bookmarks etc, but in the "What's New" it seemed voluntary and not completely ready yet. Perhaps that's changed idk.

Cannot watch clips through ip interface

I've been having major major issues with BI for the past week now. At one point all I had to do is check for updates every hour and it seemed there was a new one to push out which indicates Ken or someone he uses to code the software is aware of some ongoing issues perhaps? I rarely ever email...

Is there any cams that would fit this bill that I don't know about?

I assume when you say you want to get more cams into your source, that you are limited to the amount of SDI inputs you have at the moment and are thus hoping to use an RTSP feed off of this cam? If so, I'd hope for the price the sync is near real-time, but obviously there will be some processing...

LTE Modem and Router for remote locations

So this is where things get really tricky and it's not that I'm assuming anything, but if you haven't spent a lot of time dealing with advanced networking concepts you may find yourself at a loss with 1GB/mo and especially with a Win10 installation. In fact most network engineers I work with...

LTE Modem and Router for remote locations

Mostly all of those are junk sadly. You'll want to stay away from anything that says it's USB based (those stupid dongles) and you'll also want to stay away from anything that has a battery in it (they expand and explode over time being fed power 24/7) The first one you linked is actually one of...

Using DSLR / HD Camcorder via IPTV?

The DSLR would burn out after about a day or two I'd bet. Older DSLRs that first introduced "Live view" and video recording options had issues with heat affecting the sensors. It took years of research and development to improve the failure rates. Even now I'm skeptical of using live view and...

$29 screen -- Perfect for cam feeds and whatnot

Sorry to hear about the Winbook -- I deployed over a hundred of them in a commercial environment that puts them through stress every week day and I have them running 24/7 -- no issues yet. I'm less happy with the decision to use USB to Ethernet somewhat ironically because that seems to be the...

$29 screen -- Perfect for cam feeds and whatnot

Yeah not sure what they would be doing wrong to get those results. I'm assuming they didn't have wifi set up properly in their house etc. Or my biggest assumption there would be if they are using an MJPG stream, they aren't compressing it properly in which case most wifi devices would see a...

$29 screen -- Perfect for cam feeds and whatnot

I used to write my own and whip up in PHP but lately it's easier (and cheaper for time) to use ActionTiles. $22 for one time license and done. I've reversed a lot of my custom automation stuff around the house, throwing away all of the RPi junk I thought was the bees knees years ago haha. That...

$29 screen -- Perfect for cam feeds and whatnot

Yep. Takes about five minutes and no rooting/jailbreaking/etc otherwise I would never do it (I'm lazy). Works flawlessly and consistently. Technically you don't need it, but I like a Kiosk style browser in Play store so Silk browser takes a side bench.

$29 screen -- Perfect for cam feeds and whatnot

Those Amazon 7" tablets are on sale for a few more days I'd assume. $29 for a screen that works with Google Play Store and runs reliably 24/7 -- not a bad deal at all. (Not to sound like an advertisement for them, but I see a lot of people on here going back to the whole Raspberry Pi monitor...

    Inactive Cameras

Good points to clarify: The cameras don't want to wake from inactive status. A moment ago I thought I got one of them to wake, but then they stayed active which was kind of a bummer since I'd like them to sleep again. A few minutes ago during one test I saw that some of them were still giving...

    Inactive Cameras

@fenderman Thanks for testing! Did you have to set up scheduling any different than default? In addition to playing with everything inside that scheduling screen, I thought it maybe had something to do with what cameras (groups) were pulled up locally on the BI server and any web playback, but...

    Blue Iris - BlinkStick

Built something like it back in the day haha BlinkStick does have the capability of doing this as well, but requires a script or program to listen for commands. It may require some nerd hands-on there similar to my solution using a little WIFI chip. API Implementations | BlinkStick: Blog

Suggestion: Add on-network detection to geofence

Not entirely related, I built something years ago that solved this. Not sure what I did with the code. But for the technically brave, it's a simple solution that really worked well. 1.) Static DHCP entry for all phones in the house. 2.) Set phones to keep wifi on (Back in the day, this was easy...

    Inactive Cameras

Can't seem to figure this one out for some reason. One of the newer BI Updates states: A new option on the Schedule tab in camera properties "Camera is only active when viewed remotely or full screen" can be used (in conjunction with un-checking the box Continue to display and stream video)...
