My two setups.
i3-8100 with hardware decoding off, H.265, no motion detection 2%CPU 500Mps. 100% when playback/
i9-9900K same 500Mps, H.265, no HW acceleration, motion detection, alerts etc 12% CPU. 30% less or more during playback.
You can use BI for continous recording without motion detection using less than 10% CPU. Use all setting from Optimizing Blue Iris's CPU Usage page. I did it myself and CPU goes down from 80% to 8%.
I tested H.264+ and H.265+ with and without Intel hardware acceleration. H.265+ without acceleration need about twice as much CPU % compared with H.264+ with acceleration. It's difficult to say about space savings. They are very much dependent on type of scene, how much movement etc. I think...
I want to automatically delete continous recordings after short time and keep triggered recordings longer. I didn't find any way to do in on one machine, but it's simple on two.
I want to have triggered and continous recording from each camera.
For tests I did two almost identical BI installations on two PC. One with triggered, and second with continous recording.
What is the cost of using two BI servers vs clone camera on one? Does streaming to two servers make...
I have the same problem but chanigng above setting does nothing.
Two separate BI installations, with the same cameras.
One i3-8100 is fine and the other i9-9900K no refresh on video preview. Recording is OK.
I exported config from one to the other and same problem. Configurating from scratch...
Remote was working OK for weeks. Now I can login to remote BI but I can't see any cameras. I see timeline but black screen only. Playing recording is OK.
I'm thinking about deleting all config and start from scratch. How to restore BI to default settings without losing the licence key?
Your software is using inferior in camera algorythms and that's explain low CPU usage. Your software is just plain recording with front interface for cameras.
Blue Iris is using more advanced motion detection and algorythms and that's why better CPU is needed.
You have the same settings as I have. BI have no problem with H.265 or H.265+. But there is no hardware acceleration.
This is the problem: no hardware acceleration for H.265.
From your screens I don't see any indicaton of HA for H.265.
New build for 4K cameras. i9-9900K?
i9-9900K without overclocking should be enough for 12 8MP cameras at 15fps. If you lower your expectations, then it'll be enough for you.
I tried remote management to BI running on i3-8100 with 500MP/s. It's very efficient for CPU. Remote management add average 15% CPU instead of 35% when running local interface. Playing clips is even better. Locally my CPU hits the 100%.
BI server CPU i3-8100 with 500MP/s, H.264 and hardware...
What if I'd have many licences? Upgrades for version 5 are free, after year they are free but must be done manually?
What about version 6? Do I have to buy one extended support for 30$ to have free upgrade all my licences from 5 to 6? Or do I have to buy so many supports as I have licences?
If I have two separate BI servers as a temporary solution. Later planning to use one powerful server instad of two. I want to keep some recordings permanently. How to import clips/recordings and database entries from two serwers to new one?
Moving clips probably isn't enough if there is no...
Update on my setup.
BI 5 running od Dell OptiPlex 3060 with 8GB single channel 2400 RAM, SATA M.2 SSD and HGST 3 TB HDD. All cameras are Hikvision 4MP or 8MP. H.265+ capable. Total 32MP with 15fps gives 490-500 MP/s and 450-1100kB/s. Quality highest. BI running as program, not service. Window...
There is no BI 5 IOS app in App Store. Current version supposedly support only BI4. I'm affraid if I buy this it will not work with 5 and later new app version will come with support only for 5. This is as it usually is done with other apps. Should I wait? Anyone tested current app with BI 5?
Why not record on HDD and use SSD only for system and database? Is there any difference in user experience?
HDDs suppose to be perfect for streaming and continuos write/read. SSD have no advantage for streaming.
I get looking like new Dell OptiPlex 3060 with i3-8100 for about 220EUR with 8GB RAM and M.2 SSD. Prepared clean Windows 10 install for BI 5. I think it'll be good for some time during I'll wait for bigger CPU prices to go down. I hope it's enough for recording 400-500 Mp/s.
Interesting to see i9-9900K isn't future proof after all. Comparing with cheaper options there seems to be constant price in CPU power per passmark - twice passmark power = twice price of the system.
Until BI will add support for H.265 I can use H.265+ in cameras and direct to disc write. But I suppose this comes with a cost of not using full features of moves detection in BI? I hope version 5 will have support. Now I use QVR Pro on my QNAP and it supports H.265+. File sizes are really...
I'm thinking about new build PC for BI and some light office work but maybe later it'll be dedicated for BI only. Currently I use only few cameras and testing with QVR Pro on Qnap. But I don't like this software.
Planning 8-12 4Mpx and 4K cameras with total 40-80Mpx and 15fps rate is...
I plan to have 8 and 4Mpix cameras. Total about 40Mpix for now and let's say 60Mpix in near future. All cameras support H.265 and H.265+.
Which CPU to buy? What should be it's passmark? I hope 10000 or 15000 should be enough.
Do I really have to have TDP 95W? I'd prefer something going with low...
