Cheap ($90USD) 300 feet varifocal mod LPR test

How does this set up compare to a IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E at 200ft? I may be mistaken but I recall someone said that 200ft is pushing it for the IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E whereas this set up seems to be doing quite well.

Just got 1st cam (5442). Configuration questions. Quicksync, H.265 etc

Main stream is the primary video feed from the camera. Think high resolution. Sub streams are lower quality streams often used for monitoring or situations where a full quality stream is not needed.

Welcome! So much information available it may be overwhelming to digest but do your best to narrow down what you're looking for and then flip through the reviews for the specific cameras.

Just built my NVR machine. SmartPSS sufficient ?

BI has a 15 day trial I highly recommend using. Try it side by side with any alternative option to see what you like best. If you want lots of options and flexibility that you can tweak and refine you will most likely love BI and buy it long before the 15 day trial is up.

Bike Rider Falls in the Street

It's bad enough crashing your bike. Crashing in front of someone's house where you are recorded on multiple HD cameras is even worse. I feel for her.

Need input on camera options for this doorway

Varifocal may be your best bet, that way you can play around with it and dial it in exactly to your liking. A bit more money of course but can come in handy testing focal lengths for other future cameras. IPC-T5442T-ZE is worth looking at.

Now I see why Looney2ns is always staring at his camera's during his reviews.

That got a chuckle out of me. The article says 670 nanometers red light. Very interesting. I'm even happier now that I spent so much time in the photography dark room with the red lights.

    LPR on new Ontario plates

It was a politician with zero real world knowledge no doubt. We also had a series of plates that would completely de-laminate and peel off. We also have to deal with snow covered plates.

    LPR on new Ontario plates

I was all set on adding an LPR to my set up but I'm wondering how difficult it is with the new Ontario License Plates popping up. For anyone outside of Ontario that is curious, the new plates are not raised lettering or highly reflective like most plates are. There has been a lot of media...

The IP address that BI connects to does not load the camera interface when you type it into the browser URL field? Make sure you don't search for it on bing.

Any comparisons between 2431 and 5442 (or 1/1.8 Colorvu)

Comparing lux ratings isn't always apples to apples and should be taken with a grain of salt but it should give you a rough idea.

Have you tried connecting to the camera directly using a computer on the same network? 192.168.1.108 is the default IP and you can use a web browser. There is a playback tab that allows you to access the recordings on the SD card. The camera can be configured to either continuously record or...

IPVM Plan. Does this look good ?

IPC-T2231T-ZS is a 2MP verifocal worth checking out. It's good to have one verifocal on hand to use in real world testing to determine optimal focal lengths for future cameras.

New member researching my first POE IP camera system

Welcome Ryan, You are on the right track with optical zoom being important for license plates recognition (LPR). There is a section in Hardware - IP Cameras - LPR where they are discussed. IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E is a popular choice for LPR with it's 12x optical zoom.

IPVM Plan. Does this look good ?

Looks pretty good. Are you getting good PPF in all the areas that you need it? 10 feet is pretty high for recognizing faces. Make sure you do some testing before final installation. Dropping them to 8 feet or lower is ideal. Do you have decent lighting near the 2341?

Do you use wall anchor on plasterboard / eve install?

I usually ditch the included hardware in favor of anchors or toggles. They might be overkill but I have plenty on hand and they are much stronger.
