8CH NVR with PoE for 2MP Longse cameras

I can't believe how cheap the NVRs are.
$31 for a 9-ch 46Mbps H.265 NVR, $98 for a 36ch 300Mbps H.265 NVR.
Pretty basic feature sets - but throw-away prices.

I'm going to order one and test it out. It's soo cheap and I doubt it's going to be reliable but I got people only care about price. They told me the app for the mobile platform is called FREE IP.

did you try their nvr?

I'm going to order one this week and play with it. I can take some screen caps if you guys want it? I'm also going to order a few of the domes/bullets to try too. I know their night vision sucks according to IPVM but I need something cheap and works ok at night. IPVM was saying the WDR is broken and some options just straight up don't do anything.

Let us know about the NVR, and depending on which cams you get they do have some good ones, any of the Longse cam threads, Cantonk probably has the same cam, just pick ones with good sensors. When I talked to tech last night it was a Longse tech.

Do you happen to know what's some good sensors? I've never bought these ultra cheap ones before, as I usually buy LTS/Hikvision cameras, so I'm not too familiar with the image sensors. I'm thinking of doing the IMX291 + Hi3516D cameras, are those the preferred image sensors? I couldn't find too much info about the IMX291, other than one guy that had issues with it flickering black/white.

The IMX322 is a few years old but has a good track record and well liked on this forum but maxes out at 2MP(2.24 according to spec sheet). The IMX178 shows really good night picture and is catching on also. I don't recall much on the others, 291, 225, 124, I'd have to look up some data sheets on them but specs only mean so much compared to real world testing.

The flashing could be related to firmware or other hardware issues, not essentially the CMOS.

Go with at least 2MP cam, you probably won't notice a lot of difference between 2 and 4MP for home security applications.

Try what you want to, the cams are cheap enough to test a few, even if you drop top end sensors in a camera, it won't do much if the rest is junk. So far I am liking my cams, no they are not the same as cam for 4-8 times the price but if the reliability is there, they are worth what I paid for them.

Ok, I'll give it a try and see if I can get 1 of each (IMX291, IMX322, and IMX178) and see how they work in day/night situations. The guy you gave me is pretty responsive and really wants my sale. I just hope these work decent.

No it's not. IMX322 is one year old (just). It was available 2015. Before then was IMX222, not much improvement and before then was IMX122 which is no where near as good as IMX222.

It's not all about sensor anyway, otherwise none of us would have Hikvision stuff.

How does the IMX322 stack up to the IMX222?

Not yet, going to order one this week and hopefully play with it when it comes in a couple weeks.

How does the IMX322 stack up to the IMX222?

5 to 10% better (tops!). Not much in it. Now IMX322 is readily available then why get IMX222? I thought I wrote that, obv I didn't. You'd struggle to know which one is 222 and which one 322. 122 isn't anywhere as bright or good in the dark, avoid that.

Thanks for the tip, I'll steer clear of the 122. Have you seen or heard anything with the 291?

Don't know it. I think if you are tinkering you'll be better off with IMX178 but just beware you aren't getting a fully developed product. I would never give this to my sister for example.

I talked to him for almost a month before I ordered anything, but all China sales people want to get your money, "You ready to order?" or such is very common.

I think your killing yourself with the amount of choices. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those sensors, plus there are the specs of the cameras, IR range, IR type, camera style, POE, indoor/outdoor, lens size, variable zoom. No one camera can do it all, though some can do many.

It really just depends on your needs, what you want to see and where. Being a DIY project you really have to decide that for yourself.

Thanks for the heads up, I don't mind spending like $30 on a camera. If it doesn't work out so well, I can probably just sell it to someone else.

I'll just narrow down to a couple to play with, I'm more curious about the NVR products, since it's pretty cheap. I'll end up getting 1 of each one probably (sensor and DSP) just to see. From reading the other thread about the 5MP one that someone got, seems like the bigger issue would be the night vision and how well it performs. The day picture has no problem, it's the night one that is challenging to get working good.

I just got an email from the Cantonk sales, due to the earthquake in japan, all IMX sensors are in limited supply with a 4 month lead time and they don't sell it now. Now, I have to either wait till end of summer or get something else. What a bummer, I was going to order some stuff this week too!

This is what I got from them:

Dear friend

I think you must know the earthquake happened in Japan destroyed Sony sensor factories.

A lot of sensor are already
Out of stock. like IMX 291 etc.At least 4 months, Sony can rebuild their factory.

There is some latest solution for your replacement. Dont hesitate, Next few month, A lot of company will turn to new sensor for replacement.
