Advice/Assistance on placement of cameras for floor plan

BTW, if i ordered one of these hikvision ds-2cd2732f-is with a varifocal 2.8mm to 12mm lense, assume I should be good vs ordering 3 cameras? i.e. i could figure out what lenses to use with the one more expensive version?

Have them run conduit to the locations you picked plus every corner of the house. If you have conduit, you can easily add more cables and/or replace a bad one if needed. You could even run to your attic area as well to allow access to the upper overhangs. It is a lot easier to do it now than later. Should not add a lot of cost, depending on the builder, might let you do it to save money. I found 5 full rolls of the orange conduit on craigslist for cheap.

I placed several access door locations in the porch ceilings with conduit running to them. I use them as pull boxes as well since several of them link to other drop areas. They will be fairly concealed when my tongue and groove ceiling is installed. The doors will be about half the size of the boxes in the pics, I can then lift them into the openings to access the conduit. My initial thought was to mount the cams on the doors, if I need to change cameras and have to make adjustments to the holes, I could replace the door if needed.

I wish I would have run larger conduit to a couple areas that have multiple access doors connected to them.

So after some more playing around with the software on the plan, I think this is what I'm going to go with.

First floor with camera FOVv4.JPG

In terms of cameras:

Camera 1: Hikvision ds-2cd2532f-i 2.8mm (looks like based on the entry way I have to mount it at a corner)
Camera 2: Hikvision ds-2cd2132-i 2.8mm (this will be under an eave in the middle of the garage doors, might go with 2532 for smaller size)
Camera 3: Hikvision ds-2cd2332-i 2.8mm (sounds like the eyeball/turret/mini dome offers a bit better low light performance which will be good in the garage?)
Camera 4: Hikvision ds-2cd2132-i 6mm (mounted to the side of the house right on the brick wall)
Camera 5: Hikvision ds-2cd2132-i 6mm (mounted to the side of the garage under an eave)
Camera 6 and 7: Either the 2532 or 2132 in 2.8mm (these will be mounted to the ceiling of the covered porch, so may go with the 2532 as it is less assuming?)

I may get a couple 2732 varifocal lens domes in lieu of the 2132's. Looks like the price difference is only about $20-25 and will give me some options in case Camera positions 4 and 5 for instance do better with 4mm or 2.8mm vs 6mm?

All possibly attached to a Hikvision DS-7616NI-SE/P Economic PoE NVR. Considered going the i5 Nuc route with NVR software (Blue Iris or other), but this may just get too involved and the price seems to get a lot higher at that point vs the $380 for the NVR with software.

May possibly just buy the NVR, a couple 2732's and a 2532 2.8mm to start and test out the lens focal lengths and size of the domes once I actually have the house.

Icerabbit - thanks a ton for pointing out that software, it's pretty cool once you get used to it!

Thoughts?

Edit: The 2132 maynot work on the side of the house where it gets mounted to a wall based on reading network camera critics site, so maybe the 2032 bullet will be better for this side (or the 2732's as noted above)?

Hey guys, Can anyone confirm whether my edit above is correct regarding the 2132?

That is true...it cannot be wall mounted without a huge mount that holds the camera on a horizontal plane...I would use a 2332/3332 turret in its place.

Thanks for the confirmation Fenderman...

Update, seems like the updated 2132 has 3-axis now, so I assume this means I can mount it to the side of the house vs having to go with bullets? Will also adjust my driveway one to a 4mm per another poster's suggestion.

Can't speak to that dome cam--but why not go with the hikvision turret? Thing looks great, suffers no IR issues that a dome might, and its eye is fully moveable so you can mount on a wall or under an overhang.

Just wondering about how weatherproof it is vs a dome?

So now that I've finally moved in to the new house and ready to order, of course getting Hiks is now very difficult in Canada. So I'm now thinking "Dahua" instead.

Can anyone advise which Dahua models would be closest in feature set to the Hiks I was going to go with, and is the quality somewhat similar between the two?

IPC-HDW4300C to replace DS-2CD2332-I (I personally think better from my experience at low light 0.01 lux and 0.005 b/w lux)

IPC-HDBW4421R-AS to replace the mini dome.

So here is what I'm thinking if I can't get the Hikvisions (and the Dahua appears to be significantly cheaper now):

6 of Dahua-IPC-HDW4421C-IR

3 x 2.8mm - Backyard entrance to family room, backyard garage entrance, inside garage camera)
2 x 6mm - Sides of the house)
2 x 4mm - On garage facing driveway, in backyard covered porch facing backwards towards yard

Then one of the 2.8mm versions of the IPC-HDBW4421R-AS, for the front entrance.

Finally, the NVR4216.

A few questions:

1. Noticed the dome on the Dahua has a different implementation of IR lights (one square light vs a ring of IR like the Hiks), and the square IR light almost seems impeded by the lens in some photos? Has this implementation tested well?
2. Are all these cameras 3-axis? I.e., can I mount them on a ceiling or wall?
3. I don't read much about the Dahua NVR on this forum compared to the Hikvision 7 series. Is it considered inferior?
4. I can't tell if the NVR comes with a POE switch or not. If not I'll just buy one off amazon as it's cheaper than the offerings CCTV China has, anyone know?
5. The Hiks had brackets available that you could buy for difficult mounting and/or extra space for the connections vs making a larger hole which can be difficult on brick/stone, can't seem to find the same for the Dahua's?

Thx

Also, just reading up some more on Dahua vs Hik. Seem to imply that getting firmware, etc. for the Dahua's is much more difficult and finding help online isn't as simple as the Hikvisions?

Just thought I'd update this post. Purchased a Hik 7616 E2 8P NVR along with 8 Hik DS-2CD2142-FWD-IS cameras with the lens configuration in post 36. Also picked up some DS-1259ZJ and a couple DS-1260ZJ brackets for installation on stone/brick walls, etc.

Have installed 6 so far, haven't had time for the other 2 and had to order another bracket anyhow. Outside of the fact that the brackets didn't come with any screws to attach the cameras to the brackets and both 4mm and 6mm screws didn't seem to fit exactly, the installations were a lot easier than I thought.

Here are some pics of the end results. Wanted to thank all you guys for the help!
