Advice needed - making sure I understand the cliff notes

So - I've decided I want turret cameras for my new house. I'm a very safe area and not super worried about security from intruders necessarily (although that's a benefit), but more worried about being able to see what's going on in the pool, when there's a package a porch, a car in the driveway, etc...

I'm building a new house, and need to nail down camera location placement in the next couple of days. Being able to see at night is important, but certainly not the most important - again, because I'm mostly wanting the cameras for convenience and that is primarily during the day. The security aspect is an added benefit that we enjoy.

I'm looking at 3 cameras, and if I understand the cliff notes correctly the lower MP is going to be better at night, but maybe not better during the day? I'm looking at these models:
I'd love any advice, as this is all a little overwhelming for me at the moment. I've been making a billion decisions, and have really been focused on all the structured wiring, distributed audio, distributed video, etc... Thanks in advance.

Hi @dhendriksen

The exact model camera imho is less important at this stage than finding good placement options for doing your cable runs.

See the cliff notes on running cables - over cable ( N+1+ ) and get an example varifocal IP PoE camera + power source to help you test possible locations ( assuming your framing is already up ).

Remember light fixtures will change the quality of the image for any camera placement - so you may need to adjust your planned placement a bit.

Also have someone act as the prowler / package thief with a hoodie and cap so you can see if you've picked good locations for the cameras.

Please do feel free to share any good resources / experience you have on your build out!

Use Dahua starlight cameras or Hikvision darkfighter cameras or ICPT Night eye cameras (https://store.ipcamtalk.com/) if you need good low light cameras.

run more wires and more locations than you think you will need. Run three cables to the door bell locations. Run cables to both sides of the garage door, no higher then the top frame of the door.

My front and back door are covered by three cameras each, The street mail box is covered by two cameras. The drive way is covered by two cameras mounted on the garage, I never park in the driveway. The inside of the garage, covering the door into the house one camera. All public areas in the house are covered, Living room, man cave, art studio, kitchen, all out side doors are covered by cube cameras mounted inside.

More megapixel is not necessarily better.

Read, study, plan before spending money ..... plan plan plan
Test do not guess

You need to be able to identify who did it.

If I was building today, i would have an RF45 jack on every inside wall of every room.

Do not rely on wifi for security. I can kill any home wifi system in less than 3 minutes.
