bidens incredible transition to electric cars

Need much much more copper ..

Its a shame copper recycling doesn't exist. Wait, hang on!

These "experts" very often have massive holes in their opinion. We need to get these dinosaurs out

People seem to forget that yes, electric cars might take slightly more raw material to make, but then its done! That's a one and done cost. Meanwhile gasoline and diesel needs to be constantly produced to keep ICE cars going

My wife has had her first EV (Mach-E) for just over a year now. Charged near 100% from solar produced on my roof bar the very, very few times we were net importing when on charge, in which case my power plan is 100% Wind & Solar. (I think that's happened literally once)

No gas or oil, and no oil changes. It boggles my mind how anyone can not see how EV's are the future and very clearly much better for the environment.

Are they for everyone right now? Nope. I'll keep my 2.7 Ecoboost F150 until its dead and I won't trade my BMW F750 GS for an electric bike any time soon, and clearly many people in apartments may struggle to charge at home. But the technology is SO much better and makes so much more sense for 99% of people

Just curious if your homeowner's insurance has gone up since you notified them that you garage and charge an EV in the attached garage. :wtf:

Conversely it boogles my mind how anyone sees that EV's ARE the future.

I am on the fence on this one, don't plan on buying an expensive battery operated vehicle anytime soon but they may have a place for some people. Since flooding is a big concern with these EVs, not being able to put out the fire they start, I live in an area that can flood easily. Think I will pass...guess I am in the 1% of people ;)

That just doesn't exist... Homeowners insurance doesn't have a yes or no for that

I would also expect a discount, since ICE cars catch fire much more frequently

That blanket statement is not correct. It depends upon the insurer and one will not know unless they are notified. Some include the coverage, some do not except at extra cost.

Can you link to one? Never seen that before in my life

Wonder how true this is, if you compare the parentages of both. They may be around the same. The problem I have is, presently, that I know of, there is no way to put out a Lithium Battery fire...even First Responders just let them burn...hope nobody is stuck in one.

Also, this is obviously not a problem now, but you will be amazed at how many cars are in rivers, lakes, jump 30 years from now with EVs in rivers. lakes...

But I can't really comment since I/we really don't fully know what affect the EVs will have on all of us in the future. I'm not buying the it's better for the environment push. At my age, doubt I will ever own one. Out in the Country, farm equipment, heavy industrial equip., just don't see that changing anytime soon.
There is battery lawn equip. now but I don't see any commercial mowers switching. Sure, I have seen younger consumers with them, but try to mow high grass :), I watched one kid take most of the day doing so, haha, I almost grabbed my gas mower to help him.

I was drilling a 2 inch hole in wood with my battery operated DeWalt, it was struggling, I grabbed my corded drill, it was like butter, same bit. I often watch workers that come to do jobs for us, first thing they do is plug in their batteries in our outlet (on the grid), so they can finish a job. Sure the battery operated hand tools are convenient, but not always reliable.

just my 2 cents...guess now it is 2 dollars ;)

First one is just a generic page, and its about car insurance not homeowners insurance

The second one is a usual fluff garbage article, it doesn't even say you need to inform them

If it must be disclosed, it would be in a very easy to find policy document. It simply does not exist. There is no homeowners insurance policy in the USA that requires extra insurance, requires disclosure or blanket denies coverage for an EV

The wife told us last night at dinner she heard a 5% tax will be added to EV Charging Stations. We were at a restaurant with EV Charging Stations, they had 350Kw and 250Kw marked on the parking areas, is that how fast they charge?

Looks like Kentucky, but I would assume other states will have their taxes too.

Jeezus, it's not worth all this back and forth, I never stated they WOULD charge more and it's YOUR choice whether or not you tell them about the EV but I can state this for a fact: many insurance companies will take any opportunity to deny a claim. Their favorite method is to state they were not informed of a potential on-site risk, installation by an un-licensed contractor, an un-inspected or un-permitted installation, etc.

Did I say a claim would be denied? No. But I trust insurance companies about as far as I do our federal government.

I don't have an EV, don't intend to get one and don't give a rat's ass who does have one or more and loves them like they were the end-all to be-all....it's still a free country.

I don't know, If I was to transition to EV from my 2015 gas powered rav4 would be a new plug-in hybrid I suppose.

Oh yeah...same here. Hybrid would be the only way for me. Pure electric? No way.
