Fast forward a year - I have access to 5 but am afraid to install it as the overwhelming sentiment seems to show that 5 is not yet stable.
This incorrect. Blue iris has been rock solid since a month or so after release. Understand that that developer adds features with constant updates which can be unstable. Therefore if you install a known stable version you will not have any problems. I have over 20 systems running blue iris 5 flawlessly for almost a year.

Well......finally after several unanswered support tickets and multiple attempts at a password reset I was able to change my password and log in.
Every time I sent a 'forgot password' request the response would arrive several hours later by which time the link would respond with 'expired'.
I kept trying and just now the response email arrived immediately and I was able to change my password.

The overall experience with Digital River/MyCommerce/Share-it has been terrible. I hope Ken from BI reconsiders the choice of payment portal in the future. I emailed BI support with my concerns.

My suggestion to those struggling (SBN, devastator, Dwellonroof) is to keep trying with the password reset request. Maybe their servers were struggling or not maintained and the response emails were being held up. Who knows. But crap service regardless.

I'd rather just manually pay each year to update BI than use this rubbish subscription provider (Digital River).

After several attempts with the email and contact us route I called again and though I got a foreign speaking gal she was able to cancel and said she would email me a conformation which I received the next day.
What an outfit, I'll be glad to be out of that .
We will see for sure when I keep a close eye on my CC statements.

You could always manually install the updates from the blue iris website even if it wont auto update.
Doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Without an unexpired extended support and maintenance plan you can't update. You are stuck at whatever the latest version was before your extended support and maintenance plan expired.

Yes as explained in this and many other threads. The developer stopped giving it away for free has he has been in the past, despite not having to do so.

If you used PayPal simply login and go to "PAYMENTS > Manage automatic payment" to end the autopay. Once you deactivate it will show up in the inactive section of automatic payments.

Really great that I found that out until AFTER I downloaded and installed the update from the website.
HINT HINT: Might want to add something like 'Installation of this upgrade will put you software in demo mode being your support plan has expired. Continue ? "
Hint hint the developer doesn’t read user forums. Hint hint it’s easy to revert back. Hint hint there are 100 other vms options if you are not happy.

Hint, Hint: You might want to pay attention to the renewal date on the configuration page BEFORE applying an update.

Can't accept constructive criticism I see. Great way to promote and improve a product.
I dont have anything to do with the product. I do have problems with passive aggressive internet trolls hint hint, who like to dish out but cant take it. The developer knows about this issue and is doing nothing. If that bothers you speak with your wallet. You wont.

Today I paid for the renewal and upgrade to BI5 and then cancelled the subscription. I assume I should be good for next year with updates? I just won't be charged in a year?

If on the BI page "Settings" => "About" in the lower right corner says "Support Expires" on the date a year from the day you renewed, you should be good.

CoreTemp is only telling you about the processor temp and stuff, not actual improvements to the program. If anything it says how great BI5 is with all the additional improvements and doesn't use anymore resources than the previous version. Something we cannot say about Windows from one version to another.

Um let's see - two big improvements from V4 to B5 include the ability to use substreams and DeepStack AI, and dozens of other improvements. Those two alone are worth the price of the new version.

NO WHERE does it say you have to pay for a yearly subscription. You can run BI4 just fine. Or buy BI5 and take all updates for a year and then sit on that version update if you are too cheap to fork out $30.

Here is a clue Sherlock - many here do not run on the most recent version. We find a version update that works and meets our needs and we stay with it until a new update that includes something we want is included.

So if BI4 met that need for you, then stick with it.

How about doing some actual research before spewing out lies....

You can do any updates up to the expiration date on your order (1 year). After that expiration date, you can remain on latest version available to you and it will continue to work with no additional funds needed.

BI has always said that but it wasn't until around May 2020 or so that they started to enforce it.

I wouldn't call it a subscription because you can choose to not pay the $30 and stay on the latest version available to you (based on when your one year is up) or pay the $30 and get updates as they happen for the next year. Many people here are still running version 4 with no trouble and haven't paid in years other than the original purchase.

From the help file (page 216):

A license includes basic support and maintenance which means access to email software support and same-version updates for one year from first activation.

BTW most here do not run the latest version. Once we find a stable version, we stay on it until something is added in an update that makes it worth someone's time to upgrade.

I was on an older BI5 version until the substreams option was introduced - that was a game changer so I updated to that update. Then I sat on that update version until DeepStack came out.

You lied saying there is no improvement between BIV4 and BIV5 and saying that one has to pay an annual subscription. Both of which are flat out lies and I cited examples.... Wait for others to chime in unless they feel you are simply a troll LOL.

MANY people here use substreams and DeepStack - do a search on this forum and other forums and see for yourself how many people are using it. In fact we have people here creating custom models for the use of Deepstack and sharing it here. Look at all the applications out on Github as another example. People are creating and improving it all the time.

You said you bought 2 licenses of BI5 - my apologies if you bought them and don't use them and instead use BI4. Most would assume if you bought it you are using it... I didn't question why you bought 2 licenses and a one year subscription update at the same time. Maybe user error on your part. But if you overbought two many licenses, then take that up with where you bought it. This site is not part of BI.

I really don't see where an apology is necessary....you flat out lied saying there was no improvement from BI4 to VI5 and about the subscription...

Here is the list from BI website of all the updates....that looks like a lot more to me than no improvements....
