We have a Hikvision DS-7608NI-E2 / 8P NVR connected to 4 HIkvision camera's (2 DS-2CD2055FWD-I 2.8mm, 1 DS-2CD2T55FWD-I5/I8 4mm and 1 DS-2CD4A26FWD-IZHS/P). The system is used to monitor the roadway entrance to our development. We have had no luck getting the camera's to clearly pickup the license plates of the cars. We recently upgraded 1 of the DS-2CD2055FWD-I 2.8mm cameras to a more expensive LPR DS-2CD4A26FWD-IZHS/P in order to improve capturing the license plates, but are still having issues. Most of the setup has been attempted remotely using the Hik-vision web interface, iVMS-4200 PC application and iVMS-4500 phone application. However through these interfaces it seems like the camera Image adjustments provide only: Brightness, Contrast and Saturation. How do we access the more Advanced Configuration Settings like Exposure and Day.Night Settings, etc? I think we need to do this to try to improve the camera images especially at night. Any assistance appreciated. Thanks.

There is an LPR (license plate reader) section in the forum that talks about camera setting. A few thing, the camera can be used for LPR, but it will not really be useful for other information, So it is recommended that you use two cameras, one for the car and one for the license plate. The angle of the camera to the road way and the height above the road way and camera zoom effect the LPR. It takes time and work to get it set up correctly.

Provide pictures and diagrams for the camera locations.
for camera placement use the calculator... IPVM Camera Calculator V3

Please read the IP Cam Talk Cliff Notes and other items in the IP Cam Talk Wiki. The wiki is in the blue bar at the top of the page.
Read How to Secure Your Network (Don't Get Hacked!) in the wiki also.

You need to login to the individual camera web interface. Find the IP address of the camera and log directly into it.

The Camera's each have a local IP assigned by the NVR of 192.168.254.2 - 192.168.254.5, The NVR has an internet accessible IP address. So not sure how I can reach the individual camera's Web interface. Do I need to physically unplug the camera's from the nvr and plug them into an external PoE Switch along with a PC? Thanks again for the help.

Sorry I dont know HiK NVR's. Your PC/laptop should/may be on the same subnet as the cameras? If not if you can access the NVR with a laptop, plug into one of the ports and you should be able to hit the 192.168.x.x net

On Dahua NVR's you go to the Registration page in the NVR and you can connect to each camera from there

The Hikvision NVR will have a 'Virtual Host' facility where you can access the camera web GUI via the NVR web GUI, using links in the far right column of 'the Camera Management' page.
Enable Virtual Host in Advanced Settings of Network Management.
I enabled Virtual Host and now see the links on the right in Camera Management , but the link is via the local IP of the NVR not the external IP. Is there a way to to access it via the external (Internet) IP of the NVR? Would I possibly need to setup some type of port fwding? Otherwise if the only way to use these links is to plug the PC in locally to the NVR, do I connect my PC to the LAN port or can I just plug the PC into an available PoE port of the NVR? Thank you for your help.

I set up port forwarding on the router and can now see the Advanced Display setting for the Camera remotely. Thank you for the help.

Whilst it's good that you can now see and make the changes you need, please be aware that port forwarding presents a serious security risk to the devices and data on your LAN.
You would be so much safer to check out the extensive how-tos and user experiences on implementing a VPN on this forum.

Yes I understand and agree that I need to investigate switching to a more secure connection using a VPN. Note that only the NVR and Camera's are on this LAN which is using a Pepwave MAX BR1 Mini cellular router.

OK, that's good, thanks for the clarification.
So not the usual 'entire home network' put at risk in this case.
