Firstly, apologies in advance - I'm trying to setup my first IP camera and I'm a bit out of my depth.

I've got the camera connected, ConfigTool 4.05 & SmartPSS both recognise it. But I can't get it to accept any admin/password I've tried.

I did initially (prior to installing SmartPSS) try changing the password in ConfigTool, but it seems an unfriendly bit of software - there's no confirmation of whether or not it's actually done what's been asked. I've tried the password I entered and various combinations (including 8888010818) without success.

I've read about hard resets but before I look at taking the case off and risk resetting it to Chinese, is there anything obvious I should try?

I've just had a thought - this was a potentially used item (Amazon Warehouse deal) so could potentially have someone elses setup on. I suppose I'll have to get the screwdriver out.

How are you managing to buy off Amazon.com?
Since they changed the rules to require a payment card issued locally I've been unable to do so with any UK cards, even foreign currency cards.

*edit* @fenderman - what's with the new 'auto insert links to external URLs'
Is this a new feature of the forum software?

*edit* @tenohfive - ignore my question - the 'auto-inserted link' was to Amazon.com, so I assumed that's where you'd bought the camera.

No worries.

I bit the bullet. Needn't have worried, it was easy to hard reset and I'm now into the camera. This is probably a naive question but should I be able to rotate the view remotely, or is it just by hand (with motorised zoom?)

You should be able to do mirror and flip via the web GUI - so increments of 90Deg only.
Everything else mechanical by hand. If I've understood your question correctly.

I'd eyed up that camera a few times last week on amazon.co.uk warehouse deals - but thought the low-light performance would be a backward step.
Rare to see Dahua on Amazon warehouse deals. Or even used on eBay, much is the pity.

I don't seem to be able to move it in the vertical axis, either via SmartPSS or Blue Iris. I get basic zoom and focus only.

this is a fixed camera with motorized varifocal, you cannot move it. Also avoid hacked china region cameras.

I've got this all set up now and connected to Blue Iris - but I can only stream to my phone with BI or gDMSS Plus app when connected to the same WAN. It doesn't seem to work over mobile data. Webcasting is enabled, is there something else I need to do?

Opening a port=bad security wise, right?
Will do some googling on setting up a VPN.
