Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

Okay, thanks for your replies, that will be my choice then.

I just don't see the difference between the WDx0PURX and WDx0PURZ models. Is it only an older and a newer one?
Cause the specs look the same to me.

There no difference. One of them is only to let WD recognize that it was produced for the US market. But you could also get this model here in the EU, so it's totally worthless.

well I received my nvr5216-16p-4ks2 and updated it to firmware 3.210.0003.0, Build Date: 2017-04-18. However, after I updated it, I preformed a factory reset based off an suggestion that it would be advisable to do so. Erm, i think i was supposed to default it, rather than do a factory reset. i didnt notice the default vs factory reset difference. Now, my nvr is slightly different than it was before. I have a new android like unlock patttern, easy4ip ( i used to have p2p), my 888888 account and 66666 account have disappeared, and some other differences. Am i still good to go or did i mess up big time? thanks for your time.

Right, these are some new features. I started a thread for the new features and new bugs that came with this firmware.

do you have a link to the thread? I remember reading it a long time ago but i cant find it now. Also, do you know what to do about the admin accounts being deleted (888888 and 6666)? Arent these supposed to be fail safe since they can only be accessed locally? They disappeared when i factory reset =(

Here's the post

The 888888 account was failsafe, but also an invitation for someone with access to the NVR who knows it.
Now you could get emailed in case of lost password. And with the android style unlocking it should be easier to remember, eh?

Hi all,

right now I'm looking for some rack mount ears for the Dahua-NVRs (I've got the NVR5208-8P-4KS2).

As I'm from Germany it would be hard to order some in the US because I don't think that they will ship to here.

Maybe @EMPIRETECANDY you have an idea?

Best regards
Mischa

RACK MOUNT, you can use NVR5224-34P-4KS2 this one has rack mount ears. Not sure NVR5208-4KS2 has such parts.

@EMPIRETECANDY do you have a retail price for the NVR5224-24P-4KS2 now? Would be interesting how much it is compared to the NVR5216-16P or the 5232-16P. Rack mounting might be interesting for some people. The airflow would be much better than the desktop version in a rack.

this one price 450usd/pcs if ship with bulk order, price can do little less for the shipping rate.

Doesn't sound that bad. It's not that much more than the 5232-16P was. If I wouldn't had already bought the 5232-16P I would go with the 5224-24P I guess.

much bigger than the NVR5232-16P-4KS2 also heavier!

Ok, 4,5kg is more than 2,7kg. But size and weight does more count for your shipping cost than for the rack mounted NVR. And this unit has 1U for real. The 5216/5232 is mentioned to be 1U in height, but it has more, because of its feet. So you have to disassemble it's feet or plan 2U in your rack.

and probably louder! Waiting on a replacement fan - can hear it through brick wall!
Yeah, probably it might be louder. The 16P has a budget of 130W, the 24P has a budget of 210W. But for sure, it can't get even louder than the 16P is... i have to close the door to the utility room since the 5232-16P is mounted there
But the airflow would be better in a rack with the 24P version. Air inlet is in the front and not side, and outlet only to the back... this is how it should be in a rack.

Loud fan no more! Got a delivery today - new fan. It only pushes 1/2 the air volume (don't confuse m3/h with CFM - 1 m3/h = 0.6CFM), but so much quieter...Was going to leave it as is, but then I had an old fan in my hand (the loud one). So...
I thought to test it by connecting to the side case fan pins that only supply 5v. And it works! It probably pushes 1/2 the volume, and maybe I could have just left the old one in place and just cut the power in 1/2. But I connected the old fan running on 5v now to the back of the PSU, making sure that it blows IN to the PSU. There is a little screw on the back of the PSU and the long screws that the new fan came with fits the hole and holds the old fan in place.
I had to rotate HDDs a bit, as the thickness of the fan does not allow the drives to stay as they were.
If I was doing the conversion now, I would order 40x40x10mm thick fan (instead of 20mm) either running 5v or 12v and connect it to the back of the PSU.
All in all - great outcome for me. The way it is now, I think it has better airflow than with just 1 tiny fan trying to get all that air through.

Which fan did you put inside the PSU?

Look at the bottom picture. Looks like it's attached to the outside of the PSU.
outside is the original fan running at 5v - blowing air IN.
the one on the inside is a replacement 12v 40x40x20mm - Scythe Mini Kaze Ultra. Its blowing air OUT
But as I mentioned previously - you can just run the original fan in its place, just either connect it to 5v connector on the main board or limit the voltage

So now you have the intake at the back and blow the warm air from the psu to your HDD?
