I've had the same issue with some (not all) chinese market dahua cameras. I have to set up the motion and ivs settings directly on the camera. Even after that, it can be a messy job to set the dvr to record on the trigger. Fortunately, once that's set up on the nvr it sticks, and when I want to adjust the motion or ivs settings I just log onto the camera.
Me too. I changed most of my cams to cams from @EMPIRETECANDY. The few Chinese domestic market ones I still have are configured through their individual GUI and recording on IVS events is activated in the NVR, so it works for me and even IVS rules are shown correct in the NVR.

@Myllerman get it from @EMPIRETECANDY and you are save. You get it with the general English oem firmware and will be able to changed it to the original branded Dahua one, if you like their logo like me
Regarding to the tech spec it will do 4K for all channels, but I have no experience with that, because I’m using the 2MP Starlight cams.

Hi Myllerman,

Yes it can handle 16x 4K/8MP - note though at lot of the NVRs will have issues displaying all of those 4K streams, recording gets priority - so no worries on recording.

Over Decode Ability Explained for NVRs
Sounds good. I dont have that many now but for the future its good to know it works. Need to build the system a little at the time as the cameras aint excactly cheap hehe :)

The NVR will be hidden and only watching the NVR is somthing happens. Atm i am using smartPSS to watch the streams.

Mine is from September 2017. Looks a little different.
Same failure, but I’m able to configure the rules anyway. Are you able to add a rule? After adding the rule I didn’t see the tripwire on the screen. After checking the cameras WebGUI I could see the rule was added there correctly. I recently did a factory reset to the cam so I had to enable IVS in the smart plan section first. Then the line appeared in the NVR GUI as well.

Smart Plan is the option in the cameras GUI. where you have to decide between face detection and IVS. With defaults, nothing was checked at mine.
In SmartPSS your Screenshots are from the live view. You can’t configure IVS from live view. You have to go to the device config.
You should also be able to configure it with the NVR WebGUI or SmartPSS, so no 130km turn would be necessary.

Ive read through the first couple pages and the last few pages of this 26page thread. Sorry its been a long day of reading...but is there a general consensus on the viability or performance of the Dahua NVR5216-4KS2?
Should I get this model? Or keep looking?

I would recommend it. I was quite happy with this and and it’s performance. I only, changed to the 5224 because of the amount of PoE ports.
