Still not reading any cards. :(
What is the command to get the bootup log? looks like normal Linux commands are not here in this version.

As far as messing with firmware.. nah, lol, I'll mess something up.
I'd rather return this while I can.
I was going to say - sensible choice. But I see things have moved on.

It was odd that it has CCWR (World Region) yet an installed firmware of 5.2.5 with 5.2.8 on the label (box) - usually an indicator of 'seller modified firmware'.
If you want to spend some more time messing around with the tftp updater - there are various choices here: http://www.hikvisioneurope.com/portal/index.php?dir=Product Firmware/Cameras/DS-2CD2xx2/
Browser cache?

That version of firmware has a crippled version of the shell known as 'protect shell', or psh, with which you can do very little, even via the serial console.
But by changing the firmware to a known official Hikvision release which should work OK, you have proven that the hardware is not operating as advertised for the model.
Out of curiosity - in the Configuration | Video/audio | Video menu do you have a Video/audio Video type selection and an Audio tab?

Well, just applied for an RMA. Would have loved to keep these things but without 2 key functional pieces that I actually need might as well bought a bricked camera and mounted it. lol
Lets see what the vendor will say as they never replied to my last weeks question regarding microSD slot.

Alrighty then.
Just got my refund. :)
Any suggestions on what should I get in US? I just need something similar to DS-2CD2132F-IS where I need 2.8mm + audio recording.
Thanks
