Hello I just wanted to get some input from yall before I go out and place an order. I've been lurking around for a couple of weeks reading. The more I read the more confused I got so I thought a post laying it all out would be best. Thanks ahead of time.

I was thinking
3-4x IPC-HDW5231R-Z turrets around the house(Probably expand in the future)
1x IPC-HDBW4231F-AS at the front door

My House
Some placement advice and any tips/tricks to get a clean install would be awesome.

I plan on managing all of these thru blue iris. Everyone speaks really highly of it but I actually haven't tried it myself. If you have any suggestions let me know.

What do yall run blue iris on? Does this take up a lot of energy? If I build something what should it look like? Examples? Something that I could throw into my rack would be nice.

Am I better off getting a dahua NVR?

Finally where do you order this stuff? I'm from Texas 77459. Since I'm new to this I don't want to get scammed with fake stuff.

Please let me know if you have suggestions on anything. I'm still new to this so don't hesitate to tell me I've totally screwed up. Thanks again!

From your links I was able to come up with these.
Option 1
Option 2
Option 3
Option 4
Are these overkill?

Are ebay prices good or is it worth waiting for a sale?

HI Hatran2

Definitely easy to get over whelmed here, so I wanted to be certain you've had a chance to check out the notes a couple of us have made as we are learning more here:
( @looney2ns has already pointed out one set of notes, Thanks Looney2ns! And I concur that Andy @EMPIRETECANDY is a recommended vendor who has done a great job for those of us here with our purchases - if you have issues with Aliexpress you can also contact him and use paypal )

Also please check out @giomania 's notes:
Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Have fun!

You don't want option 3, the mini form factors don't have room for a 3.5" drive.

Set up search in ebay, select to be notified when something new is posted. The best deals don't last long.

@looney2ns For my front entry its all brick/stone. The only place for me to really mount my camera would be on the 12ft ceiling. Would a different camera be a better choice then the IPC-HDBW4231F-AS?
If so which one? Trying not to spend more then $200ish a camera.

That camera should do fine. At twelve ft, you will need to catch faces as they come up on the entry...hopefully.
Post a pict of your entry way, there's almost always a way to get wire to a cam mounted on brick.

Edit: I see you have a garage to the left of the entry, that'd be the place to use to run wire from the garage to the entryway through the brick. It's bit of work, but mounted at 6-7ft, the cam would do much better job.

@hatran2 definitely agree with looney2ns, do whatever it takes to get the camera low enough to be able to get a good id shot.

If you plan it carefully you can just drill a small hole through the mortar between the brick, enough for a bulk cat5e line, you may have to place a junction box on the surface to hold the connectors. The other option is a far larger hole 3/4" so I personally would try the above option first.

Please take a look at Tygunn's recent experience, an notice that he was very lucky the perp looked up at the camera

Did you get these installed yet? I'm curious how you did it. I have a similar arrangement for my entry in 77429 (tall ceiling) but my entry is flanked by the MA BR and formal dining room. So the "easy" run through the garage isn't available to me.

I have aIPC-HDW5231R-Z5 for my driveway choke point and a IPC-HDW5231R-Z12 on order for license plate reads down the street. Still pondering the front door, the ceiling is too tall, I don't have a freestanding column to hide behind, and a lower camera in most positions would probably be an eyesore from the street.

Would a doorbell cam be an option?

iirc most doorbell cameras are only capturing video part time.

I wouldn't worry too much about the "eyesore" issue - that can be helped a lot with a little paint to match your walls:

@d mac I haven't received the cameras yet. Probably delayed shipping due to hurricane Harvey hitting us. Once it's installed I'll post up some pictures. Maybe 2-3 weeks.
