Flock installed LPR's without permits and has now been banned from operating in two states

How long was it down? Is there anything in the contract on uptime or repair of broken camera?

About 8 days. They have to credit us for the time the camera was down, but nothing more. It's beside the point since the requirement is that it be up on the rare occasion it is needed.

Illinois has enough former Governors in prison, they definitely dont want Cameras near the Governors house.

When I reached out to Flock about a year ago just to get their prices below is what they sent me.

As @wittaj mentioned $2,500 a year per camera and that's for a 2 year contract plus $650.00 for install. If you check their website they have other cameras besides ALPR including PTZ's.

"Flock" may sound a lot like what people nearby hear when you get their first invoice.
I was thinking instead of "Flock" they could have named the company "Fleece". :lmao:

You are being watched. The government has a secret system, a machine that spies on you every hour of every day. I know because I built it. I designed the machine to detect acts of terror but it sees everything. Violent crimes involving ordinary people, people like you. Crimes the government considered "irrelevant." They wouldn't act, so I decided I would. But I needed a partner, someone with the skills to intervene. Hunted by the authorities, we work in secret. You'll never find us, but victim or perpetrator, if your number's up ... we'll find you! .... Harold Finch

UK has been using ANPR (autmatic NUmber PLate Recognition) cameras for about 2 decades. Over here used at key locations to detect stolen vehicles, untaxed vehicles and speeding (average speed cameras where the vehicle is timed between the cameras). There are plenty of large extablished players in the market such as HIK, so not sure where the small start up fits in.

Most UK roads don't ahve them but they are fitted to many larger roads and motorways (freeways).

eg UK average speed cameras on a motorway (freeway) - the ones you need to fear:

A road type cameras which are discretely mounted on lamp posts:

Bad guys really don't like Flock. At first they cut the power cable from the solar cell on our camera. Now they cut the repaired cable, spray painted the lens, and hit the camera with something. The irony is that we've implemented our own cameras and Flock isn't even active any more...

So they haven't seen yours yet?

I talked to a local rep here in B'ham and he said Flock Cams needed an OK before they could be used by the local authorities.

Depending on your neighboorhood you may or may not want Flock cams.

We had one already and have gotten rid of it. There's no restriction on private use. The potential concerns come if authorities use multiple cameras them to track movements. Our issue was the system was vandalized multiple times and Flock's monitoring wasn't good enough to detect it.

The fact that you put up a system a lot cheaper and probably with better quality doesn't hurt either.

The quality is vastly better than Flock. We capture way more plates at way higher resolution. And we have overview video as well which Flock doesn't offer. Flock does have an advantage in ALPR, but this isn't really a feature we need. At some point I may play around with the Blue Iris add-on anyway to see if I can get that going.

Our physical implementation was more expensive than we thought since we had to put up a pole and run conduit. Total cost was about 60% more than one year of Flock (not counting the NVR which we already had).

I'm looking at obtaining an lpr cam to put on a pole that will have a great view of the road leading from the cul-de-sac I live on. My house is on the corner, so each and every car that passes gives me a perfect view of it - front and back - coming or going.....now that I've official retired, it seems I have even less time to do things than before... :) ...or too lazy.

Before retirement, one had to plan, schedule, and prioritize things like cams. We had to work with a goal and a deadline in mind. Once we retired, we thought we have all this time in the world and I do not have to hurry up. I can just do things when I want. But I have found without that deadline looming, things are harder to get done. Too many ways to get distracted.
