In California Graffiti is under "Vandalism Law" if they get you and the vandalism is under $400 in damage you can get up to 1 year in jail and up to $1000 fine or if more than $400 in damage you could get between 1 to 3 years in jail and up to $10000 in fines, or more if damage is greater.
Hate those who mess up the walls on the freeways, they should get big fines and put them to fix it...

Sounds just like a crime to me! As far as trespassing, that's not a public street. It is a private access road behind a private business.

I've been the recipient of "tagging" on some of the buildings I used to own, it's EXPENSIVE to fix. Arrest the little sh*ts.

I thought trespassing was the act of moving into someone else private property but what I see on the video is a back side open street of a building so there is no "intrusion" here isn't it ?

You always hear stories about all the non-emergent and accidental calls to 911 and the resources wasted. I imagine they're somewhat less upset by calls where there's actually a person they can talk to on the phone and not just silence or background noise regardless of the reason they called.

In some cities here in Cali the police don't have time for taggers.they just let them do there thing.they even have some sort of tagger festival too lol.

Unfortunately when I see tagging I don't even bother calling the police Chicago has far more issues to deal with then tagging, not to mention they are under staffed. I guess if you live in a cute little suburb i would call cause they have nothing to do out there but traffic BS. Ill give you a example of how much CPD deals with here yesterday fight at a hotel sat in the call log for 25 minutes before even be assigned to someone for a response and when it finally did go out it was added to another call of shots fired. can you guess where they went first meaning that fight went unanswered for at least 45 minutes to an hour.

I will agree with him its not a priority call and the response on it just like in every big city is going to be last and quite honestly what in fact does it damage nothing really its a 30 min fix with some chemicals and elbow grease and some paint if need be big deal. its easier to handle it on your own if you see them tagging cause most will stop and run. Heck if its a brick building you call the city and they will sand blast it off for free costing you no elbow grease or waste time. I guess thats the difference from city dwellers and suburban folks they call for everything while city dwellers don't call unless its warranted.

No the city dwellers keep electing officials who don't do shit...They have become complacent...45 minuets police reponse time to a fight is unacceptable...a few good injuries or death and multi million dollar verdicts and newly elected officials is the only way to get through to them..Folks are too worried about their government freebies to vote out the Chicago rif raff

Like all "free" government services, like free school lunches or free medical care, it gets paid for, almost always by the tax payer. I would rather pay for a night in the old hoosegow than continued cleanups for these taggers.

The thing is: the police themselves have told me that they WANT to hear about graffiti in progress and will respond to it. Once, one officer even asked me why I didn't call 911 when I saw it happening! But I think 911 is trained to filter you out ASAP if you call with something like that. "Door checking" is another non-event to 911. Clearly, the cops and 911 aren't on the same wavelength about what's an emergency vs. what isn't.

I should have added to my original post that I have also attempted to call the police non-emergency number before (instead of 911), but you're inevitably stuck on "Hold" with an interminable waiting time and music playing to the point where you eventually hang up.

I dont care whether you respond or not...the politicians are doing a shit job and the police (mostly the upper management) by not getting the word out about the under-standffing are partly responsible....

In contrast to deterrence. You could have very visible cams, strobe lights or two-way audio. Your monitoring folks could deter creeps from tagging, prying doors open, etc.

Do your customers prefer apprehension (and charging the creeps with crimes) or deterin the crime from occuring in the first place?

I'm neutral (I'm not criticizing).
Just curious about the customer's preference, and how they see it from their point of view....

In this instance, the customer had a very limited budget and the first priority was to catch people breaking into the shoppes through the roof. A two way paging system is going in to this place as we speak, now that the customer knows what they are dealing with. Before they contacted us, they had no cameras and no idea what was going on.

In most cases, our customers and us prefer an apprehension. If we just deter, these guys will go somewhere else. We wold rather know who they are and put them behind bars.
