Hi guys.
Please what is the best 6Mp Turret you would recommend for residential / pro -sumer.

Its been 5 years since I installed a 2142fwd-is 4mp dome camera & 2132f-is 3mp dome camera network of 4x camera network at a remote house.

And now I am building a new house with a "comms room/ cupboard" .

Is Hikvision DS-2CD2363G0-I a good camera?

I will do a 12ch POE 4k NVR but dont think I need 4k cameras and the price point.

4Mp cameras have been good, so I figure 6Mp will be a good step up from that.

I've hex changed a couple flashed chinese and want to stay away from that, as don't want the hassle so International versions for me.

Appreciate your advice guys.

Hi @tradertim

Don't just pick some random number MP that is greater than what you already have.

Look closer at the sensor size, camera reviews here, and other performance metrics.

Hi I appreciate what you are saying but I imagine there is probably only a couple of choices & so was looking for some feedback to that model or other.

Hi @tradertim

I don't believe you're really appreciating what I am implying.

6MP cameras are not very popular with members from what I have been reading. There's good reasons for that.

Typically 4MP cameras with 1/1.8" sensors or 8MP cameras with 1/1.8" are more popular options. There's plenty of reviews you can see of camera models that members have been posting.

Take the time to review what your functional needs are first ( i.e. night time vs day time ).

It maybe useful to pickup a good 4MP cameras w/a 1/1.8" sensor and compare it to what you currently have.

Also, with the shutdown / slowdown in production in China - expect it to take some time before they get their factories back fully online.

More megapixel is not necessarily better.
Use Dahua starlight cameras or Hikvision darkfighter cameras if you need good low light cameras.
use a turret camera , bullet collect spiders, dome collect dirt and reflect light (IR)
Camera Sensor size bigger is general better Sensor Size Chart

Hi thanks.
Yes I have learnt what you are saying with the domes and was therefore targetting turret.

I was a bit confused with 2cd2355 being called a 6mp camera as when I pulled the datasheet it seemed to imply 5Mp yet it is referred to as a 6Mp.

Also hikvision usually had the MP numeral somewhere in the product code.

The only model that has been put forward is DS-2CD2365G1-i.

I wasnt targetting 4k because of the per unit camera cost.
The network I will put in is around 9 cameras.

The reason im staying hikvision is im already familar with setup, ivms, configuration, and use push notifications, line, intruder & email.

Just trying to settle on the right turret, yes will re look at 4k maybe, other option was 6mp.

Thanks for your input.

Back to the point. There are NO good low light 6mp cameras.
Look at IPC-T2347G-LU or DS-2CD2347G1-LU is the hikvision night camera.
Check the LUX rating and the sensor size. The current best general purpose camera has a 1/1.8 sensor (bigger is better) . A lux of 0.005 (smaller is better) .

There are very few if any good afforadable 4K, that work at night.

Ok I will take a look.

Thankyou. Do the 6Mp at least perform same as Hikvision 2142 2132 etc?

Wanted to stay Hikvision cause already know & installed one system.

Searched DS-2CD2363G0-I turret and
2CD2365G1 on here but not many references.

IMO, the models here that get the most references are the ones that use the best (for the price) low-light image sensors.

AFAIK, there are no affordable 6MP cameras that use an image sensor that performs better in low-light that cameras that use either the 4MP 1/1.8” or the 2MP 1/2 .8” low-light image sensors.

per below please what do you think of DS-2CD2365G1-I "dark fighter".

I will also likely deploy IR illuminator.

You can use a camera's Minimum Illumination (color) spec to rank cameras in terms of how well their low-light image quality is likely to be.

Here's the Min. Illumination spec <and image sensor> from a few cameras:

0.050 lux = 4MP 1/3" DS-2CD2142FWD-I (one of your current models)
0.028 lux = 3MP 1/3" DS-2CD2132F-I (one of your current models)

0.014 lux = 6MP 1/2.4" DS-2CD2365G1-I "dark fighter"

0.008 lux = 4MP 1/2.5" DS-2CD2345FWD-I

0.006 lux = 2MP 1/2.8" DS-2CD2325FWD-I
0.002 lux = 4MP 1/1.8" Dahua T5442AS (Dahua)

Compared to your current models (which have 0.050/0.028 lux min. illumination specs), the 6MP DS-2CD2365G1-I "dark fighter" (0.014 lux) should be an improvement in terms of low-light performance.

Compared to the most popular camera models used by forum members (which use 2MP 1/2.8" image sensors, 0.006 lux), the 6MP DS-2CD2365G1-I "dark fighter" (0.014 lux) shouldn't do nearly as well.

Hey thanks alot

Appreciate you taking the time to clearly display out the variances and impacts in such a clear to see manner.

It might be a case of deploying IR Illuminator as well

There arent many comments in forums on DS-2CD2365G1-I so bit hard to get a gauge. Have read a couple of reviews I could find seems to be reasonable cams.

Hi @tradertim

As noted, not many reviews by members here on 6MP Hikvision cameras as 6MP is not as popular of a resolution - so few are willing to spend the time and money to test one out.

Recommend picking one up along with a good reference model ( such as some of the 4MP low light models ) to compare and share your results here.

The forum gets a bunch of posts every day from owners sharing their experiences with the latest models. It'd be better if you somewhat regularly check the "WHAT'S NEW" button on the top blue bar of the page and follow along. It's pretty easy to look at the "VIEWS" and "REPLIES" columns to see which threads are popular (which usually indicates a lot of interest).

If you want to talk numbers, find an IP Camera with greatest lens size, not the number of megapixels ;)
