Getting the hang of it

HI all, I'm from the UK and have two H-IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-S3 without going into loads of detail detail the installer put the wrong NVR in and now I need to look for a NVR that can use AI and do 8MP at 20Fps as I find the the most comfortable to view, with room for expansion and also so I can use AI via the NVR, I am disabled so this is really important to me and I have been given a Dahua LITE 4 port so which is now sadly running at 1080P on these cams with a low bitrate of I have my 8MP cams running at 1080P so I can see whats recording without loss of data and freezing etc. Is the NVR5216-8P-I/L worth it or is there another unit that can do the job from Dahua, as I have limitations due to being wheelchair and being house bound I may want to update in the future. Also where would I get anything like this as the UK sites seem full of Dahua compromises and I want a device that has 3 years life and updates, not EOL. Any help is much apreciated. Also be gentle its bad enough I got a bad install from a installer that was listed in our checkatrade system, he is willing to put it right but I need to know what NVR to buy, and where from.

Thanks for any help and be gentle please, this is my first time.

There is a guy here who ships Dahua products (white label) ( no logo) with English firmware,
@EMPIRETECANDY
We support him here via Amazon and via Ali Express but in UK I'm not sure he has much showing on Amazon UK....

Thanks for your help, ill keep looking and thanks for the advice. I really want a device thats not close to EOL which many of the pro lines are now, who knew it was so complicated.

Not only did the installer sell you a wrong NVR, he sold you the wrong cameras. Those absolutely suck and should not be sold.... You should ask for your money back. Sounds like a typical trunk slammer that cannot even line up the correct camera with the correct NVR.

That 3849 active deterrence camera is an 8MP on a 1/2.8" sensor, so it is on a horrible MP/sensor ratio. You cannot have enough light at night for it to perform well.

Even worse, this 8MP is on the same sensor and CPU as a 2MP non TIOC camera and there are many threads here showing how under-performing that 3849 is. They had to limit bitrate and other parameters on the 3849 to try to make it functional, and it just doesn't cut it.

In my opinion the 3849 should not be sold with that current MP/sensor and CPU combination, but alas everybody wants 4k and chases MP over sensor and this camera is the epitome of that thinking.

Further, the red/blue flashing lights are more gimmicky and are certainly not a deterrent. With any ambient light you won't see the red/blue flashing unless you are looking right at the camera.

If you want active deterrence, your best bet is to go with the 2MP IPC-T5241H-AS-PV that will blink the white light. This is on the ideal MP/sensor ratio and will perform comparably to any similar 2MP fixed lens camera by Dahua. I have two of them. I have some of the other active deterrence cams as well, and would opt for the 2MP in every instance except for indoor, one could go with the IPC-HDW3449HP-AS-PV that has the red/blue lights that will bounce off the walls and be much more impressive than outside.

Lot's of threads here where people showed how bad the 8MP camera is in performing:

To be honest I’m quite happy with the image quality on those cameras for their positioning and to get my money back would mean me going to court it will become very complicated and could easily cost me more than the install. So they’re installed now they give good night vision as far as I’m concerned and do the job that’s needed, I grant you maybe they’re not the best but they do what I want and that’s what matters, at this time. What I need is an NVR that’s paired with them so I’ll probably contact Andy. Thanks for the information though something to know about for the future.

You must have an awful lot of light at night if you're happy with those cameras. Have you looked at motion under night conditions? Without a lot of light, and I mean like Wembley Stadium lit up for a night tournament, you're going to have blur especially with the cameras set at "default" or "auto" which is what your installer probably left them set with.

Well positioned they get enough light I can see peoples faces clearly they’re not aimed at cars they used mainly so I know if someone is out and about near my property because of my disability and the fact I cannot get to my front door, to be honest I came here looking for some help for the NVR not to have everything ripped apart, happy with what the cameras do. We all have different views on what is good and I’m sure you’re all very polished in what is and isn’t but for me they suffice and that’s good enough and I didn’t pay a huge amount for those cameras, in the area they cover it gives them a good view of what I need that simple. If no one’s got a good idea on an NVR I’d rather not have to keep talking about the cameras which is not what I came here for. Thanks.

The NVR recommended above is up to date and has 320MB bandwidth! That is what you will need
to run what you have and will take most anything else one throws at it. Just add the hard drive....

Good question...

Find below a link to Andy's store and what i believe would be a suitable 8 channel poe nvr. Please read the spec and satisfy yourself if it meets your AI requirements. I bought the 5216 (16 channels and mentioned above) version of this recorder to allow for future expansion. You can decide if the 8 channels will ultimately be enough in your case

As @garycrist says just add a hard drive. Or if possible reuse the existing 1 in your current nvr.

Hope this helps

I'm not criticizing, I'm trying to determine if the cameras do, actually do, what they should be doing. If you're happy with them, that's fine. The reason behind saying what I said is that your installer appears to be a little on the, shall we say, technically challenged side of things or just looking to unload out of date, non compatible equipment on you.

On the contrary, it is evident your installer took advantage of you. What professional would recommend AI cameras and a lite NVR? That alone should get you a discount or they eat the cost difference between the lite and pro series for selling you an NVR not compatible with the cameras they sold you.

I suspect they probably left everything at auto/default settings as well.

If they meet your needs, that is awesome, but you should still complain and try to get some money back because they unloaded onto you gear that doesn't sell for obvious reasons.

Oh I’m complaining and they are eating the price. He was given the NVR by a company called Oprema. Which is where some of the stock comes from in the uk. He assumed they had paired the package as that’s how its generally seems to be done in the uk. He was wrong and is putting his hand in his pocket. He is listed on uk checksatrade and isn’t dodgy but maybe tech challenged and admits these the NVR is incorrect.

The NVR was a new lite version listed by Dahua with a lovely orange star it’s just no good. The cameras are what his supplier had and they are massive in the uk. He tried to return it all but they refused he is being very fair. He went above and beyond accommodating shelving etc too for my disability he is a good guy suffering demand issues here in the uk. Normally his supplier gives matching gear so more likely their mistake sadly. I’ve contacted Andy as I really want a NVR5216-16P-I/L for expansion and longevity if possible. Thanks for your help.

I just hate seeing anyone getting ripped off. I this case it seems to be a technically challenged installer and a not so ethical supplier handing him the wrong equipment. It's nice that he's working with you on it, but a shame his supplier did what they did.

As others have said, Andy, here on IPCT, is a very reliable and ethical source for Dahua equipment. But if you do use him you may still need help from an installer to get everything configured and tuned.

My current installer would help, so thats not an issue. Once again thanks for pointing all this out.
