We were/ are on the north side of what is left of the eyewall. It just never stopped howling from about 10pm till now. The absolute worst spot to be for this one, other than the direct coast or if you were unlucky enough to get hit by a tornado.
The back/west side of the storm was unusually just as bad as the front side. 75-85 gusts the whole fucking time.
Typically the bad part lasts 3-4 hours, Double that and it will wear on ya.
Just took the dry dog for his nightly poop run. Made sure I was up wind to avoid flying turds. When it's blowing 25 to 35 mph and you are soaking wet it cold. Dog really enjoyed himself though. The bad winds will probably arrive at 1am.
Lucky you. The Staffy doesn't like the rain but she'll manage if she really has to go. The Chihuahua...forget about it. Doesn't even like to get his paws wet. I carry him until the Staffy has a pee and then I put the little guy down and he'll do his. Then we're back in the house.

I feel very fortunate. Never lost power/internet and this was supposed to be a big flood event which worried me because flooding during Hurricane Ian caused the creek to overflow and come within a foot or two of the back corners of my house. But the water only came a few feet past the edge of the sodded lawn. The wind was sure howling for a long time and I chose to sleep on the other side of the house instead of under the grandfather live oak tree that partially hangs over my roof. But, the rain was coming down hard and pounding on the skylights all night long.
I've got the typical tossed lawn salad to cleanup and need to blow the roof. No real damage detected. The street are covered in Spanish moss and mostly small branches. A couple of people had 3 or 4 foot chunks of old dead branches on their roofs that would eventually fall anyway. People across the street had 2 or 3 large trees laying on the back of their roof. Looks like the entire root balls tipped over so not sure if they made a slow soft landing on the roof or if the trees damaged the roof.

Brutal night with 70-90 gusts in a metal box is no fun. But we still have a roof, all safe, no major damage. I was awake about 32 hours and crashed hard earlier today.
We were lucky. Were 4 homes that lost roofs in our park, many many others nearby. Lake county I think has the 2nd highest total of homes without power.
Still compared to folks on the coast and those poor souls who got whacked by tornados we were blessed.
I was proud of my pre positioning and planning. We were out of power for 7 minutes total. ( no whole house so lots of cords to plug in and load balance).
Pro tip: your Kuerig machine uses a shitload of watts.
One of the 3 cats just came out from under the bed about 3 this afternoon. She went under about 10pm. And all 3 are very clingy today. Can’t move a foot without stepping on a cat.
Had a possible looter go buy at 4:45 am. Slow driving pickup. Stopped 4 doors up from us, passenger gets out and he looking to get in side door of an empty unit. I went out with flashlight and armed of course, yelled “hey” from maybe 150ft, guy jumps back in and they speed off.
But honestly wasnt worried about meeting my maker as much as the suck of loosing the roof .
We had done a lot of prep, important docs, some firearms, certain heirlooms and family photos were stationed off site in a high and dry 2nd story concrete storage building. Other valuables here mostly in watertight tubs.
One thing I missed I gotta correct for the next one is my extra range ammo. I must have 6-7000 rounds in original shipping boxes sitting under the bed, on floor in closets etc..(also quite a bit if HST/Gold Dot/556 gold dot and TAP in the safe which is raised and not in danger of water infiltration)
Had we lost part of a roof or windows I would have had a lot of wet ammo.
