So, my Model / Serial is as follows.

DS-7616NI-E2 / 8P1620160803AARR634086296WCVU

Which version firmware should I use? I think I accidentally downgraded by installing US firmware on it a few months ago, because I seem to have lost features. I live in USA btw and purchased this unit via eBay.

What does it mean if the model shows a 32ch NVR but the serial starts with a 16?

Thanks for the informative post.
Looking at my NVR, it should be RR code and thus, up-gradable?
I have never been game to try... and the software version is quite old.

Should I do a sequential upgrade? what's the best method? Over USB?

I also have a DS-7608NI-E2/8P POE ports and came with firmware v3.4.98_171121 with letters AARR in the serial number.

The firmware is not a Multilanguage version since English is the only language available at the login screen.

i initially reset it to default and activated it through the SADP tool without an issue. One thing im trying to make sure is to verify whether the serial number is genuine because i will eventually upgrade to newer firmwares as they become available.

That model is no longer being manufactured/developed, so that is probably the last firmware you will have.
If you want to install the multilanguage version, here it is (EN=english, ML=multi):

...just to make sure, if my nvr is gray market and i install a multilanguage firmware (same firmware version that came preinstalled in my nvr v3.4.98_171121), would my nvr revert back to Chinese? if so, then installing the multilanguage firmware will confirm whether my nvr with serial number AARR is genuine or not?

EDIT:
i went ahead and re-installed v3.4.98_171121 Multilanguage and the NVR booted up functional. i guess if my NVR with serial number AARR was gray market then it would have booted up in Chinese or displayed an error or get bricked. Thank you Securame.

Yes, you can. Your units are international, both by the s/n, and also by the fack that there is no DS-76xxNI-E in China (I think it was called DS-76xxN-E).

LOL, that might been risky just to turn your unit into multilanguage, when you do ok in english...!

:) it was more about making sure i did not get a gray market NVR from the seller since i asked for an international version NVR for upgrading purposes to avoid any possible stability issues. i also re-installed the firmware compatible with the cameras i bought "just" to make sure they were not gray matket.

Hello there,

Can this site be used to reset password for hikvision nvr? 2 months ago we bought a house and previous owner provided the password which I used to reset the password but now I cant remember it for life of me. Reaching out to hikvision, there asking about there the system was purchased and whom it was purchased from.

Any guidance would be appropriate. Thanks in advance.

Very likely - there are various ways to do that.
But - what can be done varies with the model and firmware versions of both the NVR and the cameras.

Suggestion:
Specify the model number of the NVR, and the cameras, and how they are connected, in particular if the NVR has PoE ports and if the cameras are connected to them.

Also - use Hikvision's SADP tool to find the NVR, the cameras and list their firmware versions.
If the cameras are on NVR PoE ports, connect the PC to an unused NVR PoE port to find the cameras.
Post the results back here.

NVR Model #: DS-7608NI-I2/8P
2 Camera's with model #: DS-2CD2785G0-IZS
1 Camera with model #: DS-2CD4A26FWD-IZHS8/P

The cameras are connected to NVR through PoE ports. The NVR seems to have its own network and not connected to internet yet. I can see the cameras are running on the screen but can't log in to the system.

NVR firmware: V4.21.005 build 190509
Cam 1 firmware: V5.6.0 build 190507 - (Cam model # DS-2CD2785G0-IZS)
Cam 2 firmware: V5.4.7 build 180611 - (Cam model # DS-2CD4A26FWD-IZHS8/P)

That's a pity.
I'd wondered if the camera firmware may have been old enough to have the Hikvision backdoor, so the camera could be reset to defaults and used to extract the NVR password.
But they aren't.
