Hello,

Would greatly appreciate some help regarding my issue,

I have already wired up 2 CAT5 cables through the house during renovation.

Setup my new NVR. Plugged in cameras which show as detecting for a few secs then nothing. The Power lights on the camera come on (2red) and at night the infrared in visible so they are definitely getting power.

The POE information menu also shows 2 ports GREEN. But for some reason I cannot detect the cameras. I plugged in a normal CAT5 cable to the NVR with the camera detached to see if there was an issue and it worked and the camera was instantly was recognised on the NVR with picture, could there be an issue with my cable or crimping of the RJ45, even though the camrea is defiantly powering up.

So basically they work when I use a cable and separate to the ones I have wired up already.

Would really appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

HIten

Hi Hiten

Check the terminations of the cables, you may need to redo the RJ45 plugs or the punch downs if using a panel or RJ45 keystone jacks.

Note to those reading this, this is one of the reason I recommend pulling N+1 cables to each location, as you will have another cable you can test with and terminate if needed. Sometimes cables do get damaged, so having an extra cable pulled can be a good insurance policy.

Did you crimp with the 568B standard?

+1 to that ^^^^.

Use T-568B on BOTH ends.

A crossover cable (T-568B on one end and T-568A on the other) will power up the cams but the 2 data pairs are literally swapped and cam won't be detected nor will it provide video data unless connected directly to a switch with Auto-MDIX feature.

Hi thanks for your prompt responses.

Yes I have definitely wired them up T-568B as above.

I will re crimp the RJ45’s I guess, though they do look fine. Can that be a cause of no detection if it’s not done 100%? I’m just confused as the cam are powered up.

Thanks

recommend you pick up a cheap tester. I did all my own wiring, have been terminating rj45's for decades, and still had a 20% failure rate when I tested the cables (which then passed after re-terminating both ends.)

Thanks all - I will pick up a tester and re crimp in the meantime, will be back with the result, hopefully this can resolve the issue!
