The 5mp seem to only work at 12.5 fps, then step down to 3mp 25fps. while looking at the 4mp cameras, seem to shoot 4mp at 25fps and then do 30fps/25fps at 1080pleon308 said:

There's more to night-vision than the size of the sensor. I'm not sure where all this only "1/3" sensor stuff suddenly came from. Yes IMX178 is 1/2" but the sensor is better quality and costs more anyway, it's not as simple as bigger sensor, oh better at night.
No I definitely not suggesting that. In fact I'd wager they are not using IMX178.
There isn't too much more, the main thing is still the sensor and size of the sensor does tell you a lot, lens/firmware is important, but not as much. Bottom line all modern 1/3" sensors are crap for night vision especially when you start cramping more pixels, if you managed to find a cam with 1/3" sensor that will give amazing results please let me know.
I'm not really worried about fps since I'll capture video in 1080p anyway. The main thing is having better IQ of moving objects (i.e. perps' faces).
Loen, there is a lot more needed to capturing evidential facial recognition video than simply the number of megapixels which a camera is capable of? SA lot more.
