I'm looking for my 1st Hikvision ip-cam to monitor living room and entrance. Day/night image quality is the most important criteria. Is 2CD2355F-I a great camera or it's safer to stick with a slightly older 4mpix turret, for instance 2CD2342WD-I ?

Am i right in assuming the 2335F-I has an SD card slot? if so, sweet. been wanting that in Hik turrets

would love to see some pix/vids from a 2355 vs the the 2332/5 if/when anyone has one in the flesh...

The 5mp seem to only work at 12.5 fps, then step down to 3mp 25fps. while looking at the 4mp cameras, seem to shoot 4mp at 25fps and then do 30fps/25fps at 1080p

With the F, I would suspect. I just messaged a seller to ask if it supported one.

It appears (although Hikvision early specs have been wrong before) the WR versions are 20fps and the Chinese domestic market versions are 12.5fps. :-/

I run my cams at 10fps, so not an issue for me.
5mp on a 1/3" sensor however may not do so well at night.
i guess we'll see when they start showing up around here...

There's more to night-vision than the size of the sensor. I'm not sure where all this only "1/3" sensor stuff suddenly came from. Yes IMX178 is 1/2" but the sensor is better quality and costs more anyway, it's not as simple as bigger sensor, oh better at night.

@DelBoy Are you suggesting that the new HIK 5Mpixel cameras are using the SONY IMX178 sensor? Please clarify.

There isn't too much more, the main thing is still the sensor and size of the sensor does tell you a lot, lens/firmware is important, but not as much. Bottom line all modern 1/3" sensors are crap for night vision especially when you start cramping more pixels, if you managed to find a cam with 1/3" sensor that will give amazing results please let me know.

I'm not really worried about fps since I'll capture video in 1080p anyway. The main thing is having better IQ of moving objects (i.e. perps' faces).
So the choice for me is between DS-2CD2345-I and DS-2CD2355-I. Can anyone guess if the the newer 5mpix version any better? I sure like that they come with 5.3.6 firmware, where with 2345 it could be still 5.3.3.

Loen, there is a lot more needed to capturing evidential facial recognition video than simply the number of megapixels which a camera is capable of? SA lot more.

I agree - focal length, positioning, light are more important but all things being equal which of the two will capture a better mugshot?
If there is no data yet, I guess I'll just buy DS-2CD2355-I just because it's newer lol. It's unlikely they made it worse than the previous gen.

I believe that the 5MP units are too new for there to be much data on the Leon. I would suggest that you boldly go where no man has gone before bro!
