Hikvision camera DS-2CD2385FWD-I is dead - what to do

What type of splitter was this?
The most suitable type would be an 'Active splitter' that would provide a 12V DC supply local to the camera as an alternative to using PoE for power, in case the PoE circuitry had failed.

I'm not sure about the 24V mentioned in the description. That has no place in a normal 802.3af active splitter.
But you did confirm it worked ok with an external 12V power supply?

It's not really clear - but I suspect this is for the non-standard 24V PoE method.

Please, do you know if there is away I can disable the infra red light on the camera? It comes on at night. I will like to hide the light from the public if that won't stop the camera from working. Thanks

Depending on the firmware version, and may vary with model, usually that capability is here :
