Hi, I have a DS-2CD2432F-IW which came with this mount. The mount indicated in the official Hikvision manual is different from this one, wherein it has a detachable plate (unlike mine). Can this type of mount be still mounted on a ceiling?

It appears to me that the outer part of the base comes loose from the inner and slides up the post so it can be mounted. Once it is mounted you slide it back down and snap it in place to cover the screws. It definitely looks like two separate pieces from the photo from underneath. I would slip a putty knife or butter knife in that slot along the outer edge visible from the bottom and LIGHTLY pry to pop it loose.

I like this model camera. Great picture quality. Observations: I no idea why they call this a "cube" camera. The shape is certainly not a cube. The camera has audio but I've found it very low powered - you can only hear loud talking or sounds. I think HK could have easily turned up the basic gain on the mic output in manufacturing. I have not tried the PIR motion detection. One good feature is that there is no clump of power and other input cables -- just a RJ45 jack. I have not tried the wifi. I would like to know if it is really practical to use the camera via wifi.

I'm using one wired and one WiFi. Haven't had any problems with either of them. They run 24x7 and never lose connection. Maybe off topic in this thread, but just thought I'd chime in on the reliability of these cameras. Will be buying more. Best indoor camera out there IMHO. 
Thats pretty slick the way that is put together. Sure looks like everything would snug up well after the base is mounted.

Both of mine are outside under a covered deck. The wired one is mounted on the house siding and the one running wireless is sitting on a table. The temperatures don't seem to affect them. It's been up to 104F this summer and down around -10F in the winter.
Do you have a shot of the pigtail/ribbon connection.
And has anyone used them as an alarm PIR. Would ideally like to replace my existing PIR (generic Bosch) that has coverage to my front door from about 4m so I don't have two cubes in the corner

You just saved me from a lot of aggravation trying to invent a shorter mount. Thanks!Yes, the mounting plate comes off. You have to unscrew the post from the base. It will come apart.
BTW: I did not want to have such a long post so I completely removed the post and then screwed the rotating mount into the base plate. Seems to work fine this way.
