Try with VLC still no picture.

It say also "Failed to get stream, start reconnection, Error code 24, The channel is unavailable"
Well, that removes the browser and plug-in from the possibility of being the problem.
The result suggests the camera is not working properly.
It sounds like you need to return it or get a refund.

Did the camera ever show an image in Live View?
You say you opened the camera to photograph the internal lens assembly.
Was this before you tried to access Live View?
Are you very sure that the cable connecting the sensor board to the main board has not been disturbed? If there is doubt - it may be worth checking it.

One last thing, if you wish to try it. There may be some clue or evidence in the kernel logs.
If you are able to access the camera with telnet or SSH, you can get a copy of the log.
With older firmware and full ash access:
cat /proc/kmsg
With new firmware (5.3.x) and psh access:
dmesg
And it may complain about the sensor.

Well done for managing to do that!
I see no sensor-related errors in that log, which I would expect to see if for example the cable was not properly connected.
On the basis of the tests you have done, I think the conclusion is that you have a faulty camera and you need to start a claim on the seller.

How do you get shell access with these G0 platform (Chinese 4MP) cameras? No ssh/telnet option in web interface, port 22 is filtered

Install ONVIF device manager.
ip cam must appear, there uses rtsp port.
you need to login with user name and password correctly.
if ip cam it is not damaged, you should have the image here.
