Hi everyone,

on forums I hate when people like me post something like this, but I've tried and researched for a while now but can't pull this setup off. It seems my NVR is a little different.

This is what I bought: Hikvision NVR network NVR DS-7108N-SN/P 8 CH 1080P POE http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/hkrWLIg

I then put a 4TB Western Digital Purple hard drive in it.

These are the 4 cameras I have bought to go with it, will ideally add another 4 in the next round: http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/xCAgFqo

I am going to be connecting the NVR to a powerline adapter in my roof, this is currently running a Swann system.

I’ve plugged it all in on my lounge room floor and run the wizard. The NVR was beeping at me, was simply telling me to initialise and format the hard drive. All done and was ok. I clicked DHCP and it was assigned an IP address.

I cannot however get a camera to show. I’ve read that some Chinese cameras won’t work with Hikvision, you must buy Hikvision cameras only. Other sites say I can manually add each camera and say it’s a ONVIF, but this didn’t work either.

I am brand new to this and even simple terms for you are new to me. Can someone be so kind as to walk me through it step by step or link me to a set up guide.

Thanks X 3487234827348,

Sam.

That is a very good question.
And following that I'd ask what the camera network configuration had been set to, and what the tested camera configuration in the NVR was.
Being non Hikvision cameras, it's not going to be plug&play, so a bit of manual configuration should be expected.

Well, bugger. Any pointers to something that could do 8 cameras?

If you want to power the non-PoE cameras with the PoE ports of the NVR, you will need an active (802.3af standard) PoE splitter for each camera, such as this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-TL-PoE10R-TL-POE10R-PoE-Splitter/dp/B001PS4NWW/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1448622851&sr=1-1&keywords=poe+splitter
If you buy one of these first you can prove out the camera compatibility with the NVR.

Alternatively, depending on the physical layout of your wiring you could power some or all of the cameras with a couple of 4 port or a 8 port PoE switch, with both the NVR LAN and PLA connected to switch ports, not using the NVR PoE ports.
