Okay. I have a question about recent Hikvision camera firmware versions and whether there is a difference between multiple language and English versions. Specifically, are there multiple variants of version 5.2.0 (multiple language variant and English variant)? Same question for version 5.2.3, is there a multiple language variant and an English variant? I have searched this exhaustively and it is about as clear as mud to me. If their are multiple language and English variants of the same firmware versions, could someone explain how to get the multiple language variants? I am at version 5.2.3 and the only language available is English.

I am asking the question because I have been trying to troubleshoot a problem with my text overlays where only one of four works. Some Scottish friends replied to my post on that topic and they all indicated that their text overlays were working properly. They were running firmware 5.2.0 and 5.2.3. I noticed the text overlay problem first when I was at version 5.2.0 and I still have the problem after upgrading to 5.2.3. In the responses from Scotland, screenshots were provided and even though the firmware version was the same as mine, I thought I could detect subtle differences in the graphics. (The check marks in the boxes beside my overlay texts are gray, theirs were green.) So, I am wondering what is the difference between their firmware and mine.

I connected to one of my cameras with Telnet and ran the prtHardInfo report. I'm not sure if it is helpful to this discussion, but I am including the report below:

I have collected camera firmware from these various sources:
http://www.hikvisioneurope.com/portal/index.php?dir=Product Firmware/Cameras/DS-2CD2xx2/ Though right now it looks like the download links are broken here.
http://overseas.hikvision.com/en/download_89.html
ftp://hikvisionusa.com/Hikvision_IP_Camera_Firmware/Raptor_2xxx_Series/

There can be clues to the firmware language support within the download filename, ML=MultiLanguage, CN_STD Chinese standard, EN_STD English standard, though from what I've seen this is more consistent on NVR firmware.
for example
IPC_R0_EN_STD_5.2.3_141024
Baseline Firmware_IPC_R0 series_En_V5.2.0 140721

And for comparison, here is hardware info from one of my cameras:

It could be as simple as this ...

If a cam is 'stand alone' you get 1 overlay, connecting it to a Hikvision nvr enables overlay 2 / 3 / 4

I say this cos all of the Scottish Clan members are using 76xx 0r 78xx NVR 's

No NVR with 5.2.5 if that's any help:

Also, uninstall web components from Programs, and reinstall from camera.

If that doesn't work, try the 5.2.5 posted on this forum if you haven't already.

Thanks CBX. I had already uninstalled Web Components and re-installed it from the camera after upgrading to 5.2.3. I am thinking about installing 5.2.5. Is it sufficient to install 5.2.5 from the camera's configuration web page? I have read some things about using a TFTP? method, but I'm not sure that's necessary when going from 5.2.3 to 5.2.5.

Also, does anyone know if the 5.2.5 is multiple language or English only?

Try the web way first, use TFTP if web page rejects firmware.

5.2.5 as standard is English or Chinese only.

I provide a multi language version for people who use my permanent region change solution, but I've altered it to furnish people with the extra languages.

You might also try a different browser to set the overlays - just in case it's something to do with that (unlikely though)

Hope that clears things up.
