Installation question about resolution

Good morning. I was wondering if someone will be able to give me some advice. I have a hikvision DS-7716NI-SP/16 system with 13 active zones that came with my new home. The cameras are 2mp each. I recently had to zoom in on a recording and realized it was very pixelated so I wanted to upgrade the cameras. I bought one that hikvision said was conpatible with my system. It is a DS-2CD2155FWD 5mp. I plugged it directly into the back of my DVR as zone 14 and it works but the resolution max is out at 640-480. there are no options in the drop down to go anyway near the resolution of my other cameras (2048 x 1536). Is there a step I'm supposed to do to get this resolution. I bought it from Amazon and some people commented about them being knock offs. Any advice? Thank you in advance

You need to realise that digital zoom is that digital.

It will only increase the size of what you have noise and all.

If you need good low light the 2mp low light or "dark fighter" are the best at the moment.

Instead of reaching for more pixels at the first sign of needing more zoom. I would in fact consider the re deployment and placement of your current cameras.

Pixel hunting is not the best way to go about this most definitely not for low light.

The 2mp cameras will out perform the 5mp cameras in low light.

Digital zoom isn't the answer either.

I'd pit some more research into camera placement and study the cliff notes

Is it possible you've max'd out the incoming bandwidth or decoding capability of the NVR? I know I did on one and it did the same thing, reduced various cameras bitrate and fps to accommodate the total max allowed

I have my NVR maxed out on bitrate... maxing out that aspect will only affect the bitrate setting. Not the resolution like the OP is struggling with
