Now, see, hearing that it makes a ton more sense to the overall picture with your scenario. My NAS is a wuss in comparison to yours, which changes the overall fundamentals when looking at one setup vs another. Not really much else to say there except a thumbs up gesture and a cold one. Cheers, bro. ;)

Hello everyone,

I'm new here and looking for a tabletop IP camera similar to the Foscam FI9831P.
The camera should not require a browser plugin, at least not for the configuration.

Requirements:
  • priced under 200 USD
  • indoor
  • pan/tilt
  • night vision / IR
  • 1 MP+ resolution
  • no browser plugin required // must work with Linux
Does this even exist?
Thank you for your help.
Foscam is out, just updated firmware and now it doesn't work for me in Linux. Would have to login to a browser on a windows machine to manage it.

Or maybe try the free Oracle VM Virtualbox (or equivalent) and Microsoft's 'http://modern.IE" IE11 evaluations - IE Enterprise for 90 days x 5 re-arms for Win7. Thank you @nayr from a while back.
Works pretty well, in my experience.

For those of you that may be reading this and looking for an IP camera that

  • Works with Linux
  • Does not require a browser plugin
  • Can stream mjpeg stream directly into a browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc)

I am currently using the following two models with a Linux machine and Firefox browser - streaming the mjpeg stream directly into the browser

Foscam FI8910W (PTZ)
DLink DCS-930L (Fixed)

If you know of any more, please feel free to add
