If you bought from Andy, then get from him as it tends to be better than what Dahua provides...

But a good rule around here is don't fix what ain't broke...If you are able to get clean captures of plates day and night, no sense bothering with a firmware update and risk messing that up!

With the exception of few cams were I was testing firmware for Andy, I have not updated any of my cameras because they are working for me.

You don't want to use smart ir for plate captures. you want the IR at 100% max all the time.
awesome good to know. I think once I get everything dialed in, im gonna make a Explain Like I'm 5 LPR technical side of things guide. like installing openalpr and configuring it. All the information is out there, but not centralized yet.

@samplenhold created a pretty good thread going into detail on a lot of that.

Alright so this is my current angle of my camera. It's a little further down the street.

This is depicted on the red circle.

Should I try capturing at the blue/green box? I'm at close to max zoom at the red circle

Max zoom is problematic with some people, but if you can get clean captures, that is what is important. The Red one gives a slightly better angle, but I think either will work.
For the green/blue box do you think it's not good enough angle to grab captures? I guess I can test it out before everyone heads home from work.

I have seen people get captures at a worse angle than that, but the Z12 has great zoom and you have the room and sight lines, so go for a better angle.

Here is a representative sample of plates I get at night of vehicles traveling about 45MPH at 175 feet and yours looks to be less than that.

Hmm guess I'll let it sit at this current angle (red circle) and see how it looks on captures.

something I have failed to realize is the quality looks a lot better on my pc on UI3 vs the BI App. the captures on PC are pretty much perfect for daytime.
