LPR Camera Settings

How are y'all managing the camera switching between day/night?

Most of us use the utility that @bp2008 created:

Or you run 24/7 in B/W.

Or you use the schedule profile and set it to switch 45 minutes before sunrise and sunset.

What number do you put for the day and night offset on that app? Is it in hours or minutes? Can you me your numbers? Thanks.

It is in hours, so I use 0.5 for sunrise and -0.5 for sunset. This allows the camera to hold the night settings 30 minutes longer at sunrise so that if it is a cloudy or rainy day, I still get captures. And then for sunset it kicks into nighttime 30 minutes before sunset to get captures if it is cloudy.

Asking what others think about a possible shot position for the cam is fine. But realize the BEST way to know is to test it. None of us here can really tell what it will be like. Just test it.

It is field of view dependent. My one cam can do the substream just fine, and my other cam BI struggles with switching in time to get a mainstream shot for Plate Recognizer so I just run that one mainstream.

I dropped down to 8FPS and it still captures the plate just fine.

I do not sub-stream my LPR cams.

Do you guys use the substream at all for Blue Iris, for LPR? If so, what resolution / bitrate to use? And is 15fps still ok for LPR?
I have 2 IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E that I use for LPR and have them configured as follows:
BlueIris: Main Stream - H265, 1920x1080, 15fps, VBR(6-best), 4096 kbps max bit rate
openalpr: substream 2 - H264H, 1920x1080, 30fps, CBR, 8192 kbps max bit rate
substream 1 is not enabled.

I do not use substreams with these cameras in BlueIris.
BlueIris sends the mainstream to DeepStack for object identification.

I do use substreams on my overview cameras in BlueIris.
