Malibu Fires

Hate to admit, when we moved out here, our burn piles where pretty big and not going very well. At first I did not use any starter for the first few burns, summer time, but after fighting keeping a good burn going I introduced gasoline. I would make sure I got all around the pile with the gas pour. Well after two burns that blew outward about 10 feet diameter when I threw a newspaper lit on it, I called a friend who burns alot. What I was doing wrong is not lighting it fast enough, the liquid gas was putting off gases and the slight wind was spreading them pretty quick. So, I needed to light right after I poured the gas before the gases spread.

As a kid we played with gasoline alot, learned alot, would pour a trail, on concrete road and light it to see how fast it would burn down the trail. Would pour gas on things to watch them burn. Sorry, this may sound bad, but if that guy would of done what we did as kids, he would not of had his gas can in hand trying to add more gas to an existing fire.
Back when I owned my acreage I always had a burn pile. Always shit falling out trees during storms. 20x12 feet and piled up 10 feet tall. Used a little diesel (safe) to get it going. Always water down surrounding area and had water hose on hand.

All those movies showing them using gasoline to torch a crime scene are pretty much bullchit. Gasoline is very "explosive". I think those movies give the idea to the unknowing that gasoline just kind of burns like alcohol so that's why you see people get themselves into a mess.

Had the dumbass neighbors call the fire department a couple of times on me. Fire trucks would show up then fireman would jump out and tell me "we know you have a burn permit but once someone calls to complain we have to drive our trucks out here then turn around". Dumbass neighbors were just mad that an "outsider" had bought up the neighboring acres and were trying to give me their version of "welcome". Also had them call the police several times when I was out there target shooting. Policeman would show up and say "your aren't doing anything wrong, these idiots who call us don't understand we are out in the country and not in the City limits".

Our pile(s) are more like 4-5 foot high. I will get me some diesel, thank you...

We have had to call the local police station to report when we are doing a burn, around the time of the burn ban season, they send everyone text notice instructing residents to do so, which we like. Also, we are on the CodeRED Alert system for our area, which we highly recommend. Since we have a Volunteer Fire Dept. out here, I am sure they give them the burn list. We would give them the total burn time, usually a few days for embers to totally burn out, you can see the glow from the burn pile at night. Amazing how there is nothing left other than ashes, everything burns if you do it right. We nurse our burns, raking...hose always at hand...we even hose the cleared area around the burn...

We signed up through our county website which redirects to CodeRED site, they text and call about local issues...you don't have to install the above Apps.

LAFD team tasked with preventing wildfires accused of corruption before blazes devastated city

The arm of the Los Angeles Fire Department in charge of preventing wildfires faced years of allegations of corruption, laziness, harassment and discrimination before the blazes that have devastated the city. NY Post video writer Brian Faas shares this story.

It’s just one of the black marks against the LAFD — which include allegations that a deputy chief was drunk while overseeing a 2021 wildfire in the Pacific Palisades, the very same area devastated by the most destructive blaze in LA history this month.

That firefighter was later cleared of wrongdoing by the department and given a $1.4 million payout.

LAFD’s Fire Prevention Bureau is in charge of inspecting buildings, clearing brush and other measures to stop blazes before they start.

Michael Shellenberger Exposes Who’s to Blame for the LA Fire Disaster

Yes, LA Crimes .. err Times ..

Lets just pretend I'm not retired. Lets pretend I'm here in FL making a decent living, say $120K p/yr.

If you offered my $500K p/yr to move to California, I swear to God I'd turn it down

wow .. fire destroyed even the concrete basement walls of this construction project home ..
