Motion only creating jpeg images

I have setup a new machine with blueiris and multiple different cameras.
They all record but only sometimes do they actually make a file that is playable, most times it creates a jpeg image and when I double click on it in the playlist it says "unable to open file"

what could i be doing wrong?

Welcome to the forum...post screenshots of your recording tab and the file format option(in the recording tab)

That is strange...not sure what is happening here...hopefully someone else has some insight...have you emailed support?

Side note: if you go to camera properties>general > event color and set each camera to a unique color, you will be able to distinguish the cameras on the timeline instead of seeing one blue line...This will not be retroactive, it will start with new recordings..
