First let me say that all of this is fairly new to me so if I make a stupid comment or ask a dumb question please forgive me. My situation is I need a video surveillance system for a vacant warehouse/office with no power. All power will have to come from solar/battery setup (that part I have handled). Communication with security system will have to be via cellular router using wi-fi hotspot from a local ISP. The limit on the amount of data you are allowed each month is 5GB and cost $10 per GB to increase. This is where I really have no clue about this as to how much data usage I am going to need nor do I have unlimited funds to speculate.
The Blue Iris software looks great from what I have seen and I think would probably work for me. Only need 6-8 poe cameras but I want something that I can get a pic sent to my cell phone based on motion detection and then I can decide whether to call police or not. It does not need to be recording all the time, in fact it shouldn't be recording hardly any of the time or maybe I could decide whether to continue recording based on pic I receive. From what I have read using BI controls the motion sensing, not the camera motion sensor, although you still need quality cameras for the better graphics. If I am not doing much recording can I get by with the dvr/nvr/pc being offsite and just have an 8 port poe switch onsite or would that be too much data usage on the wi-fi. If I can get a pretty good grasp of what will work best then I will work on more precise cameras and recorders I would need.
I hope some one here can give me some good ideas on how to proceed as I need to do something with this building or I am never going to be able to sell it. Between the people stealing copper and the ones too lazy to haul their trash off, it is hard to keep a vacant warehouse and surrounding area presentable to potential buyers. If I am lucky maybe this will help me get a couple of them locked up.
