New range of Hikvision IP NVR's?

Been researching lots and had settled on a Hikvision NVR. My initial thoughts were to go for the DS-7608NI-SE/P

But, now I see (and only can find on this Aliexpress shop) a couple cheaper models that seems to have better specs? What am I missing?? I can't find further info on the project and family models - and cannot see the difference between these 2!

It looks like this is not a widely known model? Could it be brand new model or maybe a very old model??

Anyhow, I have just received it, so I will make some observations known. Unfortunately, I have never used anything else, so I cannot compare it with other models.

-The real model number is: DS-7608N-E2/8P - so the model number is different from DS-7608NI-SE/P. The Aliexpress seller never listed the proper model number of this.
- The firmware it came with is English , and V3.05 build 140508 - which appears different to other Hikvision 76 series NVR??
- I have noted that I do not have "Virtual Host" functionality on my NVR which is causing some pain
- The packaging came in a brown box (as opposed to colored box I've seen on google). And an infra red remote control was NOT included.


So, what else can I check? Would I be better off changing to the DS-7608NI-SE/P model?

Hi *newbie to the site*

Im looking at getting one of these DS-7608N-E2/8P NVRs for my system based on a competitive quote from an aliexpress seller but can you expand on the problems the lack Virtual Host causes ?
Im new to NVRs to not familiar with this function.

I want an 8 POE nvr without having to use a poe switch for 6 x 3mp cameras and this seemed to fit the bill, but if its not worth it in the long run, then I may look at a DS-76016NI-SE/P which has 8POE ports I believe and is cheaper than the also new DS-7608NI-SE/8P.
I have only been able to find a chinese spec sheet for the DS-7608N-E2/8P which was no use at all in comparing models obviously.

There are reports in this and other forums that the 7608NI-SEP has an internal switch for 8 cameras BUT only 4 of the ports are PoE enabled. The newer equivalent (or successor?) which has a designation family or project is claimed to have 8 PoE ports. Unfortunately the HIK documentation of the specifications (among others) is not very good (to be polite:rolleyes-new:).

Ensure that the dealer you are buying from, can guarantee your explicit expectations and that you can exchange whatever you buy, if it is not up to your expectations and specifications.

Both your links refer to an NVR with the I in their part number. The picture on the first link does not match pictures of the 760XNI-SEP family I have seen. This family does not have any keypad or button at the front panel of the casing.

Well ... welcome to the confused world of HIK Vision.
 
I agree the first picture looks more like a 7700 series [h=1]DS-7708NI-SP[/h]
which has 4 sata devices
 
If you are interested in buying from a european dealer with european support at cheaper prices than the UK (but not as cheap as chinese Ali-whatever) check the following link

For my install on this occasion I recalculated I needed 6 cameras and decided I wanted the virtual host function necessary, so I have purchased a DS7616-NI-SE-P 16 channel from a quicker supplier which will hopefully meet my needs and ensure till the confusions of models and functions are sorted out
 
have updated the above models listing with my findings
if any corrections please advise
may be useful for others searching particular models to find this site and get the info

can you confirm if your model is as above or the international DS-7608NI-E2/8P version. EG is the text on the front and back in english or chinese ?

That would be a factor for people I gather, but cbx seems to be able to modify firmware to change chinese factory models to english.
If yours is chinese, the seller may have done a similar thing that they do with the cameras, and put a modified firmware on that is english now but reverts to chinese if you upgrade it, which is why you say you found the firmware seems to be from a different model

I am currently using this model:
DS-7608-NI-SE
 which is 8 channel and no ports
 
What does "no ports" mean?

If I'm looking for an NVR with 8 POE inputs, with the ability to view the cameras while away from the house which model would I be looking for?
 
By "No ports" i believe mel42 means the unit only has as single ethernet port to connect to the network. You need to supply your own poe switch..Which can be beneficial if you dont want to run all the cable back to the nvr but to a poe switch closer to the cameras...of course even if the NVR has poe ports you dont have to use them and can use a switch... NVR's without poe will be quieter because it requires less cooling...
